Ashes in Reading. This large single storey extension is on the home straight now.

Monocouche render on, windows and doors fitted, and the place is really starting to look the part. Next up is second fix carpentry before we move into the final stages of decoration.

These photos give you a good sense of the scale of the space. That vaulted open plan kitchen/living area with the full height glazed gable is going to be something special when it's finished.

We have had a brilliant time working with the clients on this one. That kind of trust and collaboration makes a real difference to how a job runs, and it shows in the finished product.

If you are thinking about a high-end extension and want a builder who will manage the whole process from start to finish, get in touch.

Loft conversion underway at Stratfield Road, Oxford.

The roof is stripped back, scaffolding is up, and the steel ridge beam is in. That blue RSJ is the backbone of the whole conversion, carrying the load across the full width of the roof so the loft space can be opened up properly.

It's a big job on a Victorian terrace, but the structure is solid and the work is coming along well. Once the roof is back on and the dormer is framed out, this will become a really usable top floor.

More updates to follow as the project moves along.

Wayside House, Kennington in Oxford. A new home built by Lynch Brother Homes from the ground up in 2022.

We started with a cleared plot in Kennington, Oxfordshire. Before a single brick went up, we were underground. Strip foundations excavated, groundworks done properly, everything set up to carry the weight of what came next.

That is the part most people never see. But it is what the whole build sits on.
From there the structure went up. Traditional red brick and Cotswold stone on the outside, so the house sits comfortably in the village and looks like it belongs. Step inside and it is a different story.

Solid oak and stone flooring throughout. Steel-framed glazed internal doors. Exposed stone feature walls. A curved oak staircase with pendant lighting. Underfloor heating. A kitchen and bathrooms finished to a high spec, front to back.

The landscaping finished it off, block paved driveway, fully planted garden, and professionally designed external lighting.

One team. One contractor. Groundworks, structure, fit-out, decoration, landscaping. That is the Lynch Brother Homes group model, and it is how a job like this comes together the way it did.

If you have a plot or a project and want a home builder with the full group structure behind them, get in touch.

Steel in. Joists up. Things are moving on Riverside Road.

This one is being built to Enerphit standard, which is the Passivhaus Institute's certification for retrofit projects. It goes way beyond the usual energy efficiency measures. The whole building envelope gets redesigned: airtight, thermally broken, built to use a fraction of the energy of a standard home and genuinely more comfortable to live in all year round.

On site right now the team are getting the structural steel and engineered timber roof joists in as part of a major extension and deep retrofit. Every element is specified to work together as a system, not just bolted on as an afterthought.
Done right. More updates to follow.

If you're planning a project and want a contractor who actually understands Passivhaus and Enerphit, get in touch:

β˜€οΈ A well-earned lunch in the sunshine with the team this week at The Greyhound, Besselsleigh.

Construction can be relentless at times, so it’s important to take a step back, enjoy each other’s company and recharge before another busy week ahead.

Around this table we have Phil, our Project Manager, Nicci, our Office Administrator, Chloe, our Assistant Project Manager, Tom Hooper, Operations Director at Noble Painting & Decorating, Laoise, our Accounts Technician, Charley, our Office Manager, Tom, our Buyer, and myself.

Every successful project relies on great people behind the scenes. From procurement and accounts to project delivery and operations, this team helps keep over 60 employees, multiple businesses and countless projects moving forward across Oxfordshire.

Some might call it lunch. I call it the Premier League of construction in Oxford sitting around one table. βš½πŸ—οΈ

A great afternoon with a great team.

Four projects on Abbey Road and counting. 🏠

We've just started work at 5 Abbey Road, Oxford, a full refurbishment for Christ Church College with Savills once again on board as designers and project managers. The scope covers everything from a complete strip-out, new kitchen and bathroom, full rewire, new boiler, re-roof, new windows and doors, right through to a landscaped rear garden. The photographer came round to capture the before and we'll be sharing progress shots as the job develops.

Working with Savills is always a pleasure. They're organised, they communicate clearly, and they represent their clients well. Four projects on the same street speaks for itself. 🀝

If you're looking for a contractor who takes the stress out of a project from start to finish, we'd love to hear from you.

Would you leave the country while your builder was halfway through renovating your home?

That’s exactly what Nicola and Logan did.

In this video, I asked them whether they felt at ease leaving the project while they were away and whether the build continued moving forward in their absence.

The answer comes down to planning, communication and having the right team around you. With decisions mapped out in advance and close collaboration with James Basey Architects the project kept progressing while they enjoyed their holidays.

No chasing. No stress. No wondering what’s happening back on site.

Just a project that continued to move forward exactly as it should.

A great example of what can be achieved when clients, architect and contractor work together from day one.

There’s nothing better than hearing it directly from the people you’ve built for.

In this video, our clients explain why they would recommend Lynch Brother Homes to others and, even better, why they already have.

Their words, not ours:

β€œGood people who deliver on time and on budget.”

As builders, we know a successful project is about far more than bricks and mortar. It’s about trust, communication, keeping promises and delivering exactly what you said you would.

A huge thank you to our clients for their kind words and ongoing support. Referrals are the biggest compliment we can receive.

We’re on the home straight at Plantation Road, Oxford, and this one has been some journey.

What started as a rear extension, loft conversion and full refurbishment has evolved into a complete transformation of the property. The project has included the construction of a new tanked basement, installation of an infrared sauna and whirlpool bath, a full electrical rewire, new plumbing and heating systems, and extensive structural alterations throughout.

All of this has been delivered on what could well be the tightest one-way street in Oxford. Restricted access, constant logistical challenges and limited space have made this a real test of planning, coordination and teamwork from everyone involved.

Projects like this don’t succeed by chance. They require experience, organisation and a team capable of solving problems before they become issues.

The finish line is now in sight and we can’t wait to show you the completed result.

Thinking about an extension, loft conversion or major refurbishment? 🏑
