Birdsong and the buzz of honey bees in my greenhouse this morning.

Before starting my working day, a quick greenhouse check in!

The pelargoniums are coming into their nail varnish bright blooms after plenty of TLC last weekend and the aeoniums are unstoppable! It’s all happy making and in this mad world, it’s good to have simple pleasures.

The horseshoes are ‘found objects’, literally found in my garden over the years and treasured here for luck. 🍀

I’ve learned a new word this week, to ‘giardinaggio’, thanks to Lucia Caponi .

Literally the act of gardening. However, I prefer the way it was used in the article, to make a specific trip (viaggio) to visit a garden (giardino) with a special friend. The Italians have beautiful words for everything!

And so I share a few camera snaps as we chatted and admired the glorious gardens at which sparkled in the spring sunshine. I was not concentrating on my camera, more the delicious details I noticed as we ‘giardinaggio’.

Such a pretty spring day today! Tutti frutti tulips and narcissi sparkling in the sunshine whilst the many visitors enjoyed the gardens.

It takes time for gardens to grow and mature. We ‘finished’ this Courtyard garden approximately three years ago. When is a garden ever finished! And today it was looking as envisioned almost four years ago.

I was there checking the planting and ‘topping up’ so the gardens continue to look abundant all summer long.

Swipe to the end for images before our garden transformation and let me know what you think.

Happy Easter! Wishing you joy, eggs and abundant spring flowers!

Caroline Loup Landscape & Garden Design started on the back of a ‘wake up call’ during Covid. My husband was involved in a car accident, fortunately fine, but the experience prompted me to change career, leave the City where I was transforming organisations, and follow my heart.

With a strong design eye and a deep love of gardens and landscapes, I retrained and started my woman-led design studio.

We transform gardens and landscapes into beautiful, nature inspired spaces rooted in their surroundings and reflecting our clients’ wishes. We pride ourselves in creating gardens with atmosphere that bring joy and pleasure to those who experience them.

Hand crafted, bespoke, designed with thought, care and hands-on experience; for me, creating these spaces is not just work, it’s a joyful endeavour! Isn’t that part of the magic that is International Women’s Day?

Always with me when out and about visiting clients or site visits.

I don’t garden in other people’s gardens but I’m often tweaking, as I did today, showing my client’s gardener how to adjust their pruning of a climbing rose (the joyful Rosa Warm Welcome if you are interested).

Not exactly a briefcase, unlike my previous career, but treasured tools and a basket of ‘old friends’.

secateurs
pruning saw
hand tools…I am addicted. The Dutch Trowel is my favourite but I love them all, like my children, and better still, they don’t answer back
brown twine. Funnily enough I’m very fussy about the colour!
orange, right handed scissors. Very old. Very very useful
Pink Showa gloves
basket which is small, perfectly formed and makes me happy

It’s crocus time!

Here are endless Crocus tommasinianus sparkling and naturalising under the skeletal bones of fruit trees at Little Court. Such an easy and effective planting en masse, and utterly stunning in the low light. So so simple.
