Did someone order rain!?
It’s great to see a bit of green returning to our arid lands, but unfortunately softer ground means a return of the moles…
Moles appear on lawns after a dry period because rain softens the parched ground and encourages their primary food source - earthworms - back up toward the surface.
Moisture allows for easier tunneling too: dry soil becomes packed and hard, making it physically difficult for moles to dig. Rain turns the lawn back into soft, workable loam that allows for fast tunneling and the creation of fresh molehills
Great for moles…
Not so great for gardeners!

Want to have a go yourself!?
What are you nuts!
Attempting a DIY treatment of a very active wasp nest is highly dangerous and is therefore strongly discouraged. While DIY products may work for tiny, dormant nests in early spring, a fully established, active colony poses severe health and safety hazards.

Can you guess where they’re getting in!?
Finding a point of ingress (how rodents enter a building) is vitally important because it stops an infestation at the source, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Wow, those wasp nests are starting to get pretty big!
It’s a good idea too deal with your wasp nest in August because colony sizes are reaching their absolute peak (8-10,000 individuals) and worker wasps are becoming much more aggressive.
When the queen stops laying eggs, and the larvae no longer produce the sweet liquid that worker wasps eat, worker wasps need to fly out searching for sugar, making them a constant nuisance at picnics, bins, and barbecues.
You know, the one that just won’t leave you alone!

Want to be ahead of the game!?
Investigating and resolving potential rodent ‘points of ingress’ is a great idea at this time of year BEFORE their seasonal push to get inside as we move into the colder Autumnal months.

During hot, dry weather, moles follow the moisture, so we often find property’s with drains, streams, ponds and other damp areas are vulnerable. They also dig deeper into the soil to follow their primary food source, earthworms, which migrate downward to find moisture.

Do you want to have a go at that WASP NEST yourself?
What, are you crazy!?
You should not deal with a wasp nest at height yourself using amateur products because doing so carries a severe risk of falling from ladders, getting attacked by the colony, and failing to reach the nest properly.
‘Amateur use’ products are massively restricted in chemical strength compared to professional treatments and will always fail if the nest is hidden deep within wall cavities or roof spaces.

Wow, take a look at this German Cockroach (Blattella germanica). This pest species is thankfully rare in our local area.
German cockroaches can enter a house by hitchhiking inside items, moving through shared walls, or crawling out of utility pipes. They do not typically crawl in from the outside areas bordering a property.
Getting rid of German cockroaches requires a multi-step approach using pest control techniques, deep cleaning, and sealing entry points, sometimes including drainage.
This applies to your house, and any connected property i.e., the neighbours. Terrace’s are therefore particularly notorious for cockroach issues, due to the interconnected nature and condition of the buildings.

Yes, we certainly do love our little market town of Otley.
And having lived, worked and even gone to school in Otley we kinda know our way around!
Local knowledge is highly useful in pest control because pests issues are created by specific environments, weather conditions, and local structural habits. Employing a national company utilising a general or theoretical ‘textbook’ approach often results in failed treatments or unnecessary chemical use.
At LANDGUARD we usually offer a cheaper and faster service too.
