For those who are curious to find out more. This is the stuff we do daily to keep drains flowing.
This customer had rotten smells coming back into their home. The cause was building materials being introduced into the drainage system during recent home improvement works.
Proactively, earlier this year, the customer had installed a rat gate following vermin ingress issues. The gates design allows sewage to pass through a one-way gate with the direction of flow. When the drain is not flowing it sits in a closed position, preventing vermin from entering your dwelling out of the shared mains sewers.
Although in this case the rat gate was installed correctly, the gate mechanism had been interrupted by building materials, causing a drain blockage which was backed up and over flowing into the customers grey water gully.
The solution was to release the gate and let hydrostatic pressure do its work 💩. Once the flow settled we completed high pressure water jetting to clean the effected drainage sections of the remaining debris. We then cleaned out the gully pot and disinfected the surrounding work areas. As we were satisfied the run was clear , a drain dye test was conducted to confirm flow was restored.
