Another ‘perfectly safe’ property installation… until we opened it up.😮‍💨

Recently relocated a boiler form bedroom to kitchen area and installed a new Ideal Instinct 2 Combi. What looked like a simple job quickly turned into a few unexpected issues 😅

🔧 Gas pipework: Found buried copper pipe in the wall without sleeves and signs of corrosion. We advised the customer and arranged to replace the affected section and reinstate it properly with sleeves to comply with standards.

💧 Water supply: Internal stopcock was faulty, and the external meter chamber was flooded and inaccessible. We isolated the issue, safely shut off the supply, and installed a new internal stopcock for proper control going forward.

⚡️ Electrical safety: While preparing to core drill for the flue, we removed an old extractor vent and discovered hidden electrical cables. We stopped work, reassessed the area, and adjusted the installation position to ensure safe clearance and full compliance before proceeding.

Sometimes a “straightforward” boiler swap uncovers hidden issues, but we always deal with them properly and safely.

A recent customer had a Ravenheat Boilerplan boiler that kept showing an E02 fault code. Several Gas Engineers had already attended, but unfortunately the issue couldn’t be permanently resolved.

After carrying out our own investigation, we discovered that Ravenheat has ceased trading, and replacement parts have become increasingly difficult to source, with some components only available from Europe. Since this was a rental property, the landlord was understandably concerned about future reliability and the possibility of recurring breakdowns.

Rather than investing more time and money into an obsolete appliance, the decision was made to upgrade to a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 2000.

This boiler is impressively quiet, highly efficient, and carries an A-rated energy performance, making it a solid choice for long-term reliability and lower running costs.

The installation itself was fairly straightforward. Credit where it’s due — the previous engineers had carried out a very neat pipework installation, which made replacing the appliance much easier and minimised unnecessary alterations.

A customer recently contacted us about poor hot water pressure throughout their home. After a full inspection by our engineer, we found that the property was still running on an outdated gravity-fed system, which was the main cause of the weak hot water performance.
