Collaborating to share information and insights will be vital to respond effectively to subsidence in the face of climate change.

Catalyst director Paul Duddle made the point at the I Love Claims subsidence conference at the end of April.

He was a member of an expert panel in his role as chair of the Subsidence Forum.

Which perfectly reflects our desire to collaborate across all the services we provide for the insurance industry. Catalyst MD Brad Jackson says:

“Sharing experiences helps us all refine the way we support subsidence claims customers now, while continuously improving how we respond to emerging subsidence threats.”

Meet Obi. He’s a leak detection sniffer dog.

He can smell treated water leaking from underground pipes. Helping Wessex Water to save millions of gallons of water a year.

Okay – so Catalyst doesn’t have any canine colleagues. But we’re pretty good at finding water leaks too.

That doesn’t just save property owners water. It also protects their homes from serious damage.

Minimising the cost of insurance claims, and saving a whole lot of pain.

Skills development is urgently needed to make best use of emerging technologies to counter subsidence.

That’s the message Catalyst’s ops director Paul Duddle had for delegates attending a national conference on the top this month.

He was speaking on an expert panel at the I Love Claims specialist subsidence conference in his capacity as chairman of the Subsidence Forum.

The conference heard the volume of available subsidence data has grown massively in recent years.

So much so, there needed to be a big skills push to keep up – especially as climate change is expected to increase the subsidence challenge.

The role of AI, increased use of satellite systems and innovation in process as well as data capture were also debated.

ESG stands for ‘environmental’, ‘social’ and ‘governance’. Here at Catalyst, it stands for being a good neighbour, showing concern for others, and doing the right thing.

It also means supporting colleagues and helping communities in practical ways. It’s why we have a Catalyst Community Fund that helps good causes suggested by colleagues and service partners. That includes:

🥫 Donating to foodbanks
👚Collecting clothes for people who’ve experienced domestic abuse
💝 Gifting Easter Eggs to children
💸 And supporting The Insurance Charity

To find out more, read our article about the Catalyst Community Fund.

Insurance claims can be complicated.

The simple answer is to combine expert knowledge and a smart, integrated service response.

For insurer companies and loss adjusters, cross-disciplinary technical support creates:

Clearer communication
Fewer handoffs
Faster access to the right support from first notification to claim closure
Happier claims customers

Catalyst brings together joined-up specialist services across drainage, water supply, leak detection, and subsidence investigation.

When one issue leads to another, or when the root cause isn’t immediately obvious, it makes all the difference.

For Water Saving Week, it is worth remembering that even a small leak can add up to a big waste of water.

It can also be costly, for bills and property damage 💧

Waterwise says a dripping tap can waste a whopping 1,424 litres of water a year. That’s enough to fill:

🛁 11 baths
🧼 147 washing up bowls
🫧 116 dishwasher cycles

A leaky toilet cistern can waste a staggering 200-400 litres a day if left unchecked.

And if the leak is hidden inside or beneath a building, it can cause huge damage.

It’s why expert leak detection matters.

Catalyst provides a comprehensive leak detection and repair service for water supply pipes, for insurance companies and others.

We locate escape of water quickly and with as little disruption as possible, before repairs are carried out to safeguard a property.
