Why your wood filler keeps cracking (and the £2 fix)
​Ever spent hours filling, sanding, and painting a timber joint or skirting corner, only for a thin crack to show up a few weeks later?
​Standard multi-purpose wood filler sets rock hard, but wood expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. When the wood moves, hard filler pops right out.

​The Pro Tip:

​Mix glue and sawdust for raw wood: If you're clear-coating or staining timber, mix PVA glue with the actual sawdust from your cuts. It matches the grain color perfectly and flexes with the wood.
​Use 2-part resin or flexible acrylic for painted wood: For painted skirting, door frames, or panelling, skip standard filler. Use a 2-part polyester filler or an acrylic decorator's filler. It retains slight flexibility so seasonal movement won't snap the joint line.
​The Secret: Always sand along the direction of the grain, never across it.
Sanding across leaves deep micro-scratches that absorb paint differently and expose the repair under bright room light.

Full Bathroom & Shower Room Refurbishment 🚿✨

​Throwing it back to a project we wrapped up a couple of weeks ago. This was a complete top-to-bottom transformation, taking a tired space right back to the studs and rebuilding it into a modern, sleek shower room.

​Here is a look at the step-by-step progress of the transformation:
​The Rip-Out & Prep: We stripped the space completely down to the bare walls to map out the new plumbing and structural layout.

​First Fix & Enclosure Base: We got the new low-profile shower tray set perfectly and began boarding out the walls.

​Precision Tiling: Next up was the tiling. The client chose a stunning dark, stone-effect tile. We used a precise leveling system to ensure a flawless, dead-flat finish on the back wall before wrapping it cleanly into the corner.

​Joinery & Second Fix: With the tiling sorted, we installed the new toilet and basin, cleanly boxing in all the raw pipework with bespoke timber casings.

​Flooring & Custom Framing: We laid down the fresh striped flooring and built a solid, custom timber support frame for the bath panel setup.

​The Finished Result: We added the final touch to the enclosure with a sleek, chrome-framed sliding glass shower door.

​From structural timber work and boxing-in to plumbing and high-end tiling, D&G Joinery and Construction handles the entire project from start to finish.
