Home office goals!

With many people now working from home, having a dedicated work space is a common requirement for people wishing to alter their homes.

A work space doesn't necessarily need to be a separate room and can be formed by utilising a small recess or landing area.

What are your 'must haves' for working from home?

When you have a growing family, your home may feel like it is getting smaller and you require more space. The best way to achieve this is to either move or extend, and this house extension demonstrates how it is possible to extend to create all the additional space you need.

This extension created space for a double Garage, Utility, double height Games Room and Family space overlooking the garden.

On the 1st floor, a Master Suite was formed, with Dressing Room and En-suite to the front. To maximise the use of the gallery space, a Home Office was formed, overlooking the Family space.

Ian McGregor Architects have obtained Planning Permission for a single storey extension to a new build house in Aberdeen.

We meet a lot of owners of new build homes who move in and decide that the Kitchen/Dining space isn't large enough to suit their needs.

This modern extension will provide the additional space required to create the ideal Kitchen/Dining/Family space.

The only alteration to the existing is the creation of a larger opening between the house and extension. This maximises the layout and amount of natural daylight into the central space.

The use of timber cladding and dark windows/doors will provide a contrast to the existing house. While, internally, the vaulted ceiling will provide a different type of space, with the wood burner creating a central focal point.

Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent obtained for alterations to the top floor of this listed home in Rubislaw Den, Aberdeen.

Adding an En-Suite and additional rooflights will transform the space into a stunning Bedroom Suite, with insulation added to the walls/ceiling and new decoration throughout.

With the timber frame and roof erected, the angles and lines of the extension provide a glimpse of the end result. While the A-symmetrical roof and vaulted ceiling will provide a modern volume for the open plan Kitchen/Dining/Family space.

The internal slapping is underway to allow the internal fit out to begin.

Planning permission has been obtained to replace this outbuilding in Footdee, Aberdeen.

Utilising the same footprint, and looking to maintain the character of the original building, the plan is to retain the frontage with the remainder demolished. A new, insulated, timber structure will be erected along with an insulated slab.

Internally a new Living space and Shower Room will be created, providing usable ancillary space to the main house.

Externally, the building will be clad with timber and new standing seam roof, with new timber framed windows, door and rooflights allowing light into the space.

Planning Permission and Building Warrant approval obtained for this house extension and replacement garage in the west end of Aberdeen.

The extension will create space for an open plan Kitchen/Dining/Family space, opening out to the garden, as well as a Master Bedroom Suite.

A mixture of timber cladding and black aluminium windows and doors sit alongside granite piers, formed from the downtakings. This helps to provide a modern aesthetic, while being sustainable in the re-use and specification of materials.

Building Warrant approval obtained for this Queens Road extension.

The proposed extension replaces an outdated sun room, providing an energy efficient with dark timber cladding and windows/doors providing a contrast with the granite of the original house.

A door opening is also being partially built up to increase the size of the kitchen.
