🔶 Case Study Spotlight: Boiler Room Asbestos Removal

At Jeto Limited, we recently worked alongside a local heating engineer to ensure essential boiler replacement works could be completed safely and compliantly.

During the project, our specialist team removed several asbestos-containing materials, including:

✅ Asbestos rope insulation from the boiler
✅ Asbestos cement flue pipe
✅ Asbestos cement water tank
✅ Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB) to the boiler door
✅ Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB) panel beneath the boiler

Our experienced operatives carried out the removal and disposal process safely and in full accordance with current regulations, allowing the heating engineer to continue their work without disruption.

Outcome: A safe, compliant environment for both contractors and occupants, with all asbestos risks effectively managed and removed.

If you're planning boiler replacements, refurbishment works, or maintenance projects in older properties, asbestos may be present where you least expect it.

🏠 What Are Asbestos Floor Tiles and Bitumen?
Asbestos floor tiles were commonly installed in UK homes, schools, offices and commercial buildings before asbestos was banned.

Many vinyl floor tiles and the black adhesive used to fix them to the floor—known as bitumen adhesive—contained asbestos fibres to improve strength and durability.

While these materials are generally considered lower risk when in good condition, they can become hazardous if sanded, ground, scraped, broken or removed incorrectly, potentially releasing asbestos fibres into the air.

⚠️ If your property was built or refurbished before 2000, asbestos-containing floor tiles or bitumen adhesive can still be present beneath carpets, laminate flooring or other floor coverings.

🚫 Never sand, grind or mechanically remove suspect floor tiles or bitumen adhesive yourself, as this can significantly increase the risk of asbestos fibre release.

✅ Highly Recommended!

Fantastic feedback from another of our satisfied clients:

'I contacted Jeto to assess and remove the asbestos in my 1960s property. Toby was extremely professional in looking at the property and providing a quote. Tom and the team who performed the job were very diligent and explained each step in the process, with a high level of focus of safety for all. The job was completed on time and the property was left clean and tidy. If you think you may have asbestos in your house, I strongly recommend that you contact the team at Jeto'

🚧 5 Essential Pieces of Equipment for an Asbestos Removal Project 🚧

Ask any asbestos removal operative what's needed for a successful project and you'll get a long list. But here are five essential items you'll find on almost every job!

1️⃣ Asbestos Waste Bags

Not all waste bags are the same.

Asbestos waste must be double-bagged using specially approved bags:

🔴 Red inner bags with asbestos hazard warnings printed on them.

🟡 Clear outer bags which allow the warning information to remain visible.

2️⃣ Tape

Tape is one of the most important tools on site.

It's used to:

✅ Join polythene sheets together and create airtight seals

✅ Seal waste bags

3️⃣ Staple Gun

A staple gun is essential when constructing an enclosure.

It allows operatives to:

🔹 Secure polythene sheeting to timber frames

🔹 Create a strong structure ready for sealing with tape

Once stapled, the joins are taped over to improve containment and enclosure integrity.

4️⃣ Polythene Sheeting

The backbone of every asbestos enclosure.

1000-guage polythene is used to:

✅ Create enclosed work areas

✅ Build airlocks and bag locks

✅ Protect surrounding surfaces

✅ Help contain asbestos fibres during removal activities

5️⃣ A Cup of Tea ☕

Let's be honest... no asbestos project is complete without one.

Whether it's before the enclosure build, during break time, or after a successful clearance, a proper brew keeps morale high and the team going.

And of course in a mug from our consumables and equipment supplier, SMH Products UK!

💬 What piece of equipment could you not work without on site?
