This week is Flood Action Week, an annual campaign led by the Environment Agency to raise awareness of flood risk and encourage people to take practical steps to prepare.

✨ 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 – 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 ✨

World Mental Health Day, recognised on 10 October each year, is an important reminder of the need to prioritise good mental health and wellbeing.

This week, as part of our support for the day, we took a little time out at IKHQ for a lunchtime meditation session, hosted by Jake.

The session focused on breathwork, releasing mental load and taking some time to pause and reset – a welcome opportunity to step away from the busy working day and simply take a moment for ourselves.

At Ivor King, we recognise the importance of promoting good mental health in the workplace. Our team of trained Mental Health First Aiders are available across the business, offering a listening ear and helping colleagues find the right support when they need it.

Because a healthy mind is just as important as a safe site. 💚

𝗚𝘆𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 🚧

It’s been another busy few days at IKHQ as we’ve welcomed visitors to our latest Gyropiler demonstration days, delivered in collaboration with GIKEN.

Following the first demonstrations last month, it was great to welcome another group of industry professionals to Nuneaton to learn more about the Gyropress method and, importantly, see the technology working first-hand.

The day included presentations and discussions around the technology, followed by a tour of our facilities and a live demonstration of the Gyropiler in action.

Seeing the machine working really brings home what makes the technology different - combining press-in piling with precision rotary cutting to install large-diameter steel tubular piles through extremely hard ground and existing obstructions, including reinforced concrete.

The technology also provides opportunities to achieve greater retained heights in challenging locations, without relying on traditional propping and bracing.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to visit us this week, and to the team at GIKEN for their continued support. It was great to share the technology, answer questions and have some really useful conversations about where Gyropress could provide solutions for future projects.

Ivor King - The Piling People has a long history of working on river related ventures, particularly flood protection and flood relief schemes around our UK waterways.

🌱 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀…

You might know us as a leading UK piling specialist, with more than 50 years of experience in civil engineering and construction.

But there’s another side to life at Ivor King…

Here at our Nuneaton hub, we have our very own polytunnel, where we grow all sorts of fresh produce for everyone to enjoy – from tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers to potatoes, beans, beetroot, onions, lettuce and sweetcorn.

It might seem like an unusual addition to a piling contractor’s facilities, but actually, it’s a nod to our roots. 🌱

Our origins lie in farming, so perhaps growing our own veg isn’t quite as random as it might first appear. And there’s something rather satisfying about being able to harvest fresh produce grown right here at IKHQ, it’s just a different kind of groundworks… 😉

At Derby Riverside, the innovative Giken GyroPiler has been helping us to deliver part of a new flood defence scheme along the River Derwent.

Working closely with John Sisk & Son and Giken during the pre-construction stage, we developed a bespoke piling solution for a particularly challenging environment, where space was restricted, and minimising noise, vibration and ground disturbance was essential.

The Gyropress method combines press-in piling with precision rotary cutting, allowing large-diameter steel tubular piles to be installed through very hard ground and existing obstructions – including reinforced concrete.

At Derby, steel tubes were cored directly through the existing river wall, avoiding complex removal works.

This project marks the first use of the Gyropress method in the UK – demonstrating how innovative piling technology can help overcome the most challenging site constraints.
