We’re Back – And Spring Has Sprung!
First things first… we’re sorry we haven’t posted for so long! It’s been a while since our last update, and we know many of you enjoy keeping up with what we’re doing here at BC Landscape Contractors LTD. The truth is, it’s been an incredibly busy start to the year for us, and as much as we love sharing tips, inspiration, and updates, our days have been filled to the brim working on some fantastic projects for our clients.
From garden redesigns to full landscaping transformations, the demand this season has been amazing. We’re so grateful for all the support, enquiries, and bookings we’ve received – it really does mean a lot to our team. Now that spring is well underway, we’re making it a priority to get back into the habit of posting more regularly and keeping you all inspired as the months go on.
And what better time to return than spring?
Spring Gardening Jobs for April & May
April and May are two of the most exciting months in the gardening calendar. Everything starts coming back to life, the days are longer, and there’s a real sense of fresh beginnings in the garden. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just getting started, there’s plenty to be getting on with.
Here are some key jobs to keep your garden looking its best this spring:
Lawn Care Revival
After a long winter, your lawn will likely need some attention. Start by giving it its first proper mow of the season (on a higher setting), rake out any thatch or moss, and consider applying a spring feed. If there are any bare patches, now is a great time to overseed.
Weeding and Clearing
Weeds start to grow quickly as the temperatures rise, so staying on top of them early makes a big difference. Remove them from borders, patios, and pathways before they take hold. Clearing away any leftover winter debris will instantly freshen up your space.
Planting for Colour
Spring is perfect for adding colour to your garden. Bedding plants such as pansies, violas, and primroses can brighten up borders and containers. It’s also a great time to plant perennials that will return year after year.
Pruning and Maintenance
Trim back shrubs that have finished flowering and tidy up hedges to encourage healthy growth. Be mindful of nesting birds – always check before cutting back.
Vegetable Patch Prep
If you enjoy growing your own produce, now is the time to get started. Sow hardy vegetables such as carrots, lettuce, and beetroot directly into the ground. You can also plant potatoes and begin planning your summer crops.
Pressure Washing & Hardscape Care
Don’t forget your patios, decking, and paths. A good pressure wash can make a huge difference, removing algae and dirt built up over winter and making your outdoor space feel like new again.
Garden Design Refresh
Spring is also the perfect time to rethink your garden layout. Whether it’s adding new features, updating planting schemes, or creating a more usable outdoor space, small changes can have a big impact.
At BC Landscape Contractors LTD, we’ve been working on a wide range of projects already this season, from modern garden makeovers to traditional family-friendly spaces. It’s been fantastic to see so many people investing in their gardens and making the most of their outdoor areas.
