A nice school refurbishment project completed, transforming the existing kitchen and disused areas into a modern SEN learning environment, including new classrooms, library/social spaces, sensory and quiet rooms, and upgraded toilet facilities.

We delivered the mechanical and ventilation works, making good use of the existing services wherever possible while upgrading the systems to suit the new spaces.

The heating installation included new LST radiators and SPC low-surface-temperature fan convectors, with the existing LTHW system adapted, extended and rebalanced to provide comfortable and efficient heating throughout the refurbished areas.

Alongside the heating works, the project included the new ventilation systems, domestic water services and new toilet facilities, with Nuaire heat recovery units helping maintain good indoor air quality and comfortable conditions for students and staff.

A good example of adapting existing building services and integrating new equipment to give an older part of the school a completely new purpose.
All systems now tested, commissioned and signed off – ready for the students to enjoy the new spaces. ✅

Recently completed plant room refurbishment ✅

A great project to get over the line, involving a full asbestos strip-out and encapsulation works, followed by a complete upgrade of the heating plant.

Out with the old, inefficient boilers and in with two new high-efficiency condensing boilers, installed alongside a low-loss header and new pumped heating circuits to improve system performance and efficiency.

The client was keen to retain the existing controls where possible, so we were able to reconfigure the controls strategy and integrate the new plant, allowing the system to operate efficiently without the unnecessary cost of a full controls replacement.

As with many refurbishment projects, there were a few challenges along the way, including delays to some materials. We were able to put a temporary solution in place to maintain the site services and, importantly, ensure there was no disruption when the children returned to site.

The installation has now been commissioned, client training was completed this week, and all parties are happy with the finished result.

Great progress on one of our school decarbonisation projects, with the new low-carbon heating system now taking shape.

The works include the installation of new air source heat pumps, thermal stores, pumps, controls and associated distribution pipework, replacing the existing heating arrangement with a more efficient system designed to reduce the school’s carbon emissions and improve long-term energy performance.

Externally, the new plant is being housed within a purpose-designed acoustic enclosure to minimise noise impact on the school and surrounding properties while maintaining the airflow and access required for operation and maintenance.

There is still further installation, insulation, commissioning and enclosure work to complete, but it is great to see the plantroom and external installation progressing well.

Great to reach Practical Completion on another successful school heating replacement project.

This scheme delivering a high-performance, future-ready heating solution, achieving the quality and control standards expected on modern education projects.

The system incorporates Crane Dominator valves complete with ACTCS1 Smart Actuators, providing full Modbus/BACnet integration. These actuators enable precise modulation of flow to match the exact building demand, optimising comfort while driving down energy consumption.

All equipment is controlled via a bespoke BMS panel, ensuring coordinated operation of plant, pumps and SPC FCU convector fans. The result is one of the most comprehensively controlled systems we have delivered to date, with real-time feedback and intelligent energy management at its core.

The heating distribution has been designed to operate at a 45°C flow temperature, positioning the school for a straightforward transition to Air Source Heat Pumps in the future and supporting long-term decarbonisation objectives.

A strong team effort from design through to commissioning has ensured the school now benefits from an efficient, responsive and future-proof heating system — providing a comfortable learning environment while significantly improving overall system performance.
