Six years ago, TSM was starting out.

This year, we marked the milestone a little differently - by bringing the team together for our first TSM Hog Roast.

With people working across different projects, locations and disciplines, it is not often that everyone gets the chance to spend time together away from the day to day.

The afternoon gave everyone the opportunity to catch up and enjoy a few hours together at the yard.
As the business grows, making time for the team becomes even more important.

The feedback from the team has been clear……this needs to become an annual event!

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day happen and to everyone who continues to play a part in TSM’s growth.

Protecting below ground structures requires a waterproofing system designed for the conditions it will face.

External waterproofing plays an important role in helping structures withstand the environments they operate within, particularly where water ingress could impact long term performance.

For the Willow Holt Farm project in Seaton, TSM installed Newton HydroBond 402, a high performance sheet membrane designed for the external waterproofing of below ground foundation structures, basements, water holding tanks, culverts and tunnel bases.

The performance of any waterproofing system depends on more than the membrane itself.

Understanding the structure, the conditions it will be exposed to and ensuring correct installation are all essential parts of delivering effective protection.

Specialist waterproofing is about more than applying a barrier. It is about understanding the demands placed on the structure and delivering a system designed to perform within that environment.

Rail maintenance is dictated by the railway, not the other way around.

Every possession or access window is planned around keeping the network moving safely. Whether the work involves structures, drainage, electrification or other critical infrastructure, every minute of that window matters.

Teams arrive knowing exactly what needs to be delivered, with the right people, materials and equipment in place before work begins. Once the possession starts, there is little room for delay or rework, and the railway must be handed back safely and on time.

Success isn't just about completing the work. It's about delivering it efficiently, meeting the possession requirements and returning the asset to service exactly when the railway needs it.

Reactive maintenance tests everything that sits behind a business.

When an unexpected issue occurs, there is no time to build a response from scratch.

Teams need to understand the situation quickly, have access to the equipment required and know how to move from assessment into action.

TSM’s reactive works are supported by our own directly employed teams, specialist equipment and the resources needed to respond when urgent infrastructure requirements arise.

That means the knowledge, experience and capability required on site already sits within the business.

Because when an emergency happens, the response is shaped long before the call comes in.

For TSM Contracts Manager Paul Dart, Paul’s FC Newport Pagnell Town has been part of his life for many years.

Having played for the club in 2000/2001, Paul now gives his time coaching the U18 and U23 teams, supporting the next generation of players coming through.

TSM was proud to sponsor the boards at the club, supporting a team that has played such an important role in Paul’s own journey and the wider Newport community.

The connection runs even deeper, with one of the club’s stands named after Paul’s brother.

Supporting local organisations is not just about putting a name on a board. It is about being part of the communities that matter to the people within our business.

The construction skills shortage is not just about numbers.

Across the industry, there is increasing pressure to find skilled people. But for specialist infrastructure work, the challenge goes deeper than simply filling vacancies.

Critical assets require teams with the right experience, training and understanding of the environments they are working in.

Repairing deteriorated concrete, working within operational water infrastructure or delivering specialist protection systems is not something that can be learned overnight. It requires practical knowledge, technical understanding and the ability to make the right decisions when working on assets that cannot simply be taken out of service.

That is why investing in people has always been such an important part of TSM.

Our teams are directly employed, trained across specialist disciplines and supported to develop their skills throughout their careers. Building capability internally means we can maintain the standards required when working on some of the UK’s most critical infrastructure.

The future of construction will not be defined by how many people enter the industry.

It will be defined by how well we develop the people who do.

Congratulations to Tom Mannion, our Employee of the Month for July!

Tom received three nominations this month, alongside further recognition last month, with colleagues highlighting his work ethic, attitude and the progress he has made developing into his role as a supervisor.

He has also played a key part in helping move a project ahead of programme, showing the level of commitment and responsibility that makes a real difference on site.

It’s always great to see members of the team continuing to develop, take on more responsibility and support those around them.

Ground instability rarely becomes a problem overnight.

Changes beneath the surface can gradually impact structures over time, whether through voids, weak ground conditions, water movement or settlement. Left unresolved, those issues can place increasing pressure on the infrastructure above.

Ground stabilisation is about addressing those conditions before they develop into larger structural or operational problems.

At TSM, stabilisation works are approached with careful assessment, controlled delivery and an understanding that no two environments behave in exactly the same way. The focus is always on restoring confidence in the asset itself while reducing the risk of ongoing movement and deterioration.

In infrastructure maintenance, the strongest solutions are often the ones that prevent bigger problems from developing later.

We’re pleased to share that Andy and Mitch have completed Sika roofing training, meaning TSM is now an approved contractor for Sika roofing materials.

Continued investment in training and development ensures our team has the knowledge and skills required to deliver specialist solutions to the highest standards.
