With the summer holidays kicking off for the local universities, Kings Court student accommodation will soon be accepting its next cohort of eager scholars. This block of 7 flats was laid out to allow the roof line to stepping down towards the neighbours, to fit in with the surrounding homes and businesses. These images are the 3D renders we produced prior to the work starting on site.

With the heat we've been experiencing this week we like to look back on a project like this one, where we were engaged to thoughtfully extend a small care home. The extension included 11 new rooms as well as a sensory garden designed in close collaboration with the staff members. The garden includes raised borders and multiple pathways, to help restless residents find peace and calm while enjoying the scented flowers, a space which would be well appreciated in weather like this.

Water can be one of the most destructive forces against modern homes and this project consisted of designing a new house within a local floodplain. You can see the supporting structure below, raising the house up above the flood height on the land, and creating a useful external space for storage and shelter. Above we placed a generous deck, to allow the client to enjoy the space, no matter the weather!

Located in Matlock Bath the client for this new build wanted to focus on local materials, both to comply with requirements of the local conservation area, but also to get a house which is suited well to the landscape. This building, completed in 2009 has excellent stone craftsmanship, most visible in the covered balcony looking over the valley to Matlock Castle.

Stairs can often be a forgotten area of the home which is a shame when it is usually the first room you enter in a house. In this new build our client wanted a show-stopping entry hall, so we used a bespoke timber spiral staircase to create a real impact.

This project was a great example of using traditional vernacular to create a home which perfectly suits the surroundings. Located in Papplewick the scale and design of this new build home were designed to suite the local farm houses and stables. The brick detailing and fleur-de-lys ridge tiles finish it off as the perfect nod to the rural location.

This project completed over 15 years ago was a commercial development consisting of new build flats over in Lower Pilsley. The work included 6 blocks of flats, with special features such as Juliet balconies and loft rooms with dormer windows to take full advantage of the views of the chesterfield countryside. Even now 15 years on they are still an attractive group of buildings.
