🔥 BLACK STOVE GLASS?

Blackening glass is often treated as something you simply have to live with. Sometimes it is down to how the stove is being used, but it can also be a useful clue that something needs checking.

Fuel, airflow, draught, door seals and the condition of the stove can all play a part.

If your stove isn’t behaving as it used to, don’t just keep cleaning the glass and ignoring it. Have the appliance looked at properly.

🔥 REPAIR RATHER THAN REPLACE

A damaged firebrick doesn’t always mean an otherwise good stove needs major parts replacing.

On a recent Fire Fox 5 in Southwell, the rear brick was repaired using specialist firebrick adhesive as part of a full stove service. The door seal was renewed, internal components were cleaned, prepared and repainted, and the stove received a full polish before being checked and returned to service.

This is the sort of work we mean when we say stove care, not simply chimney sweeping.

🔥 When was your stove last properly serviced?

A chimney sweep removes deposits from the flue. A proper stove service goes further: the appliance is stripped down, cleaned, checked and reassembled, with seals and moving parts inspected so problems can be picked up before winter use really begins.

If you can’t remember when yours was last serviced, now is a good time to get it checked.

🔥 A proper stove service is a little more than just sweeping the chimney.

This stove was due some attention, including a very tired door rope that was no longer doing the job it was designed to do.

As part of its Embers Premium Stove Service, the chimney was swept, the stove stripped down, thoroughly cleaned and checked, and the old door seal removed and replaced.

Everything was then put back together before the stove was fire tested and left ready for another winter. 🔥

That’s the difference between having your chimney swept and having your stove properly looked after.

Small stove, proper care 🔥

This little AGA Wenlock was swept, serviced and checked over so it was ready to be used safely again.

Even a small appliance works hard. Soot, worn seals, stiff controls and damaged internal parts can all affect how well it burns, so regular maintenance matters just as much as it does on a larger stove.

A tidy job and a lovely result.

Today’s job took us to Southwell to look after this Firefox 5 for some lovely customers 🔥

Once the stove was stripped down, we found a damaged rear firebrick. It was carefully repaired using specialist firebrick adhesive, and a new door rope seal was fitted.

The internal components were cleaned, prepared and repainted before the stove was reassembled. The body then received a full polish to bring the finish back, followed by a controlled fire test.

Alongside the chimney sweep, this was a proper top-to-bottom stove service rather than a quick clean. A lovely result and a Firefox 5 ready for the colder months.

Hey my lovelies,

I hope everyone is well and have had a good week!?!

Apologies to everyone who I have had to change appointments for. My van has broken and is still not sorted but hopefully 🤞 it’ll be back early next week and I’ll be able to crack on with all your chimney/stove requirements.

Reminders for June and July haven’t gone out yet but I’ll be working on them over the next few days.

Now it’s time that we don’t need them so best to get them sorted and ready for when the cold weather returns. Which hopefully won’t be for a good while!! 🥶 🔥
