Thereโ€™s something particularly brilliant about seeing a learner have such a positive experience that they come back for more. ๐Ÿ’›

Lewis has now completed two courses at Derby Skills Academy, most recently our Level 1/2 Plaster Skimmer course.

Alongside learning more about the industry and developing his practical skills, Lewis had some fantastic words for his tutors, Steve and Darren.

He described them as friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about teaching and passing their skills on to others. ๐Ÿ‘

That passion matters. Itโ€™s what turns training into an experience people genuinely want to continue.

A massive well done to Lewis for completing his second course and continuing to build his skills, and a huge thank you to the Derby Skills Academy team for supporting him along the way. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

We have a feeling course number two wonโ€™t be the end of the storyโ€ฆ

Feedback like this means a lot. ๐Ÿ’›

Monika recently shared these lovely words about her experience with the team at Rotherham Skills Academy, thanking everyone from the tutors in the workshops and classrooms to the staff working behind the scenes in the office.

What stood out most was her feeling that the team supported her not only with her progress, but as an individual.

Thatโ€™s exactly the kind of learning environment we want to create.

One where people feel supported from day one, encouraged to keep progressing and challenged to become the very best version of themselves.

A massive well done to Monika for everything sheโ€™s putting into her journey, and a huge thank you to the entire Rotherham Skills Academy team for continuing to make such a difference. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Women in Construction Week, story 2 of 6.
Meet Kerry Geoghegan, who came to us after redundancy and chose our Department for Education funded Thermal Wall Installation with Carpentry Skills Bootcamp as a practical route into the industry after taking the Introduction to Construction Course at our Doncaster Skills Academy.

Kerry summed it up perfectly: โ€œThis course gave me the confidence and know-how to go self-employed.โ€

From day one she felt supported with guidance, information and PPE, and she especially valued learning core carpentry skills including tool use and maintenance.

Since completing the programme, Kerry has taken confident steps into self-employment, supported by extra IAG including digital marketing guidance and even help creating a logo.

Women in Construction Week, story 1 of 6.
Meet Andrea Allpress. After spotting our course at the Job Centre, Andrea took the leap into construction, gained her CSCS card, discovered a real passion for the industry, and went on to complete our Skills Bootcamp in Bricklaying (DfE funded).

Since training, Andreaโ€™s career momentum has been incredible:
Site Assistant (internship) โ†’ Site Administrator โ†’ Mobilisation Administrator โ†’ Commercial Assistant โ†’ Trainee Quantity Surveyor โ†’ Contract Administrator โ†’ Commercial Administrator (Barratt Developments).

Andrea put it best: โ€œMy transition into construction gave me a space where my skills were valued and my confidence could grow.โ€

If youโ€™re thinking about a career change, let this be your nudge. Construction needs talent, not stereotypes.
