The steel work has been installed in our Sherwood extension project & the brick repairs are well underway. The lads worked patiently & diligently on this as the access was challenging and space was limited at best. This is often a turning point for the project. Once the last acro has been removed you can really start to see the vision the client had in the 1st place. On to 1st fix plumbing and electrics whilst we wait for Glazed roofing system.

Our joiners & bricklayers have cracked on this week rebuilding this flat roof on our Keyworth project. This space will be a utility area with W/C once complete. Once the EPDM covering is installed we can finish off the brickwork with cavity trays & aluminium copings.

We've been busy the past few weeks progressing with our extension project in Sherwood. We're out of the ground, and the brickwork is looking ace. The steels are on site, and in the coming weeks, we'll be demolishing the existing walls to finally open up the space. Then, we'll be installing the glass roof, doors, and windows. These next few weeks will be exciting as the vision for the project will start coming together.

We've made a start on a new kitchen extension project this week. our 1st task is to demolish a rather large chimney stack. Good timing as I don't think that chimney pot would have stayed put through another winter. We also did some slate repiars whilst we were up there.

Before and after of a flat roof rebuild we recently completed.
The original roof deck had been causing leaks into the neighbouring property, so the full structure had to be rebuilt. On inspection, there was also insufficient insulation to meet current building regulations, and the existing workmanship was of a very poor standard.
This project came with a few challenges. One side had to be connected into an existing EPDM roof, while the opposite side needed to be tied into a felt roof system. To achieve a watertight junction, we used a jointing bar with Firestone flexible water-repellent sealant.
The neighbouring roof levels varied significantly, and due to the age of one side, there was a noticeable belly in the roof. We married the levels up as closely as possible while ensuring the new roof structure, insulation, and waterproofing were all completed properly.
A big improvement structurally, thermally, and visually — and most importantly, the leak issue has been resolved.

We work across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands on domestic building projects including extensions, loft conversions, renovations, kitchens, bathrooms and general building work.

We’re looking for someone who:

* Has a strong carpentry or general building background
* Is happy to muck in with other trades
* Communicates well and takes pride in their work
* Is tidy, reliable and professional in customers’ homes
* Has their own tools
* Has a full UK driving licence and own transport
* Ideally holds an NVQ Level 2 or similar trade qualification

**Hours:** Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm

Do you need planning permission for an extension?

It’s one of the most common questions — and one of the most misunderstood.

In many cases, you can build under permitted development without full planning permission.

But there are limits.

How far you extend.
The height of the build.
Whether you’re in a designated area.
And what’s already been done to the property.

It’s not just about what you want to build —
it’s what your property allows.

We’ve seen projects delayed — or completely redesigned — because this wasn’t properly understood at the start.

The reality is, planning should be one of the first conversations, not something figured out halfway through.

Thinking about underfloor heating?

Here’s what most people don’t realise 👇

There are two main types:

**1. Electric (dry systems)**
Best for smaller areas like bathrooms or single rooms.
Quicker to install, but more expensive to run.

**2. Water (wet systems)**
Connected to your central heating.
Higher install cost, but much more efficient long-term — especially for larger spaces or extensions.

The key decision isn’t just the system…
It’s what’s powering it.

Underfloor heating works best with **low flow temperatures**, which means:

✔️ **Heat pumps (ideal)**
Air source or ground source systems are perfect for underfloor heating — they run efficiently at lower temperatures.

✔️ **Modern condensing boilers**
These can work well too, but the system needs to be properly designed to get the most out of it.

Done properly, underfloor heating gives you:

• Even heat across the whole room
• More usable space (no radiators)
• A cleaner, more modern feel

But it has to be planned early — especially in extensions.

We always advise clients on the right system before the build starts, not halfway through.

A good builder will tell you what’s realistic, what’s typical for your area, and what might blow your budget before you get too far.

Instead of plans, think about moments:
– Sunday morning coffee in the sun ☀️
– Family cooking together 🍳
– A quiet space to unwind 📺

Design around *that*, and the layout follows.
