Earlier in September, we completed extensive refurbishment works at our Martham Bank 24-hour free mooring, including the installation of new timbers and quay heading, along with resurfacing of the path.
The works have brought the mooring back to a high standard and will help ensure the site remains in great condition and safeguarded for years to come.
We’re often asked why we use crushed granite rather than woodchip when resurfacing our moorings. While woodchip can look attractive and provides a softer surface underfoot, we’ve found that it is particularly susceptible to being washed away during periods of flooding and high water levels. This can quickly erode the surface and means the area requires much more frequent topping up.
Crushed granite provides a far more durable surface and is also more suitable for visitors using mobility scooters or wheelchairs, helping to make our moorings as accessible as possible.
Our next project will be the refurbishment of our Herringfleet 24-hour mooring, and we look forward to sharing more details with you once the works have been completed.
