What’s a “thermal break” and why does it matter when buying aluminium doors?

Aluminium is a brilliant conductor… of heat AND cold.

A thermal break is an insulating strip sandwiched between the inner and outer aluminium sections of your door.

It stops cold bridging which is the transfer of cold from the outside to the inside of the frame.

This in turn makes the doors much more thermally efficient and reduced the likelihood of condensation on the inside of the doors.

Accoya timber is engineered to last. It doesn’t make sense to fit it with hardware that won’t go the distance.
That’s why we recommend Coastal Group.

Every handle, lock and hinge is made from 316 marine stainless steel, made to resist the salt air, rain and decades of daily use. It’s also backed by their Performance for Life guarantee, so the hardware will last the lifetime of the door.

Why is Britain’s most iconic front door design still Victorian?

With millions of Victorian-era homes across the UK, the classic 4 panel door was and still is extremely popular.

It’s a versatile design that is now seen on many different property types. Modern twists include different mouldings, etched patterned glass and statement door furniture.

Repair or Replace? 5 signs it’s time for a new door.

Patching up an old door might feel like the cheaper option, but if you’re ticking more than one of these boxes, you’re likely spending money to delay the inevitable:

🌬️ Obvious draughts

🔒 Sticking or hard to lock

💧 Rotting

📈 Rising energy bills

🔨 You’ve already repaired it more than once

Inspired by one of the world’s most famous and architecturally striking neighbourhoods, the Origin Soho window style beautifully encompasses the district’s artistic flair and diversity.

The Soho style is perfect for those primarily seeking a distinct, modern style to their home.

Our fitting team have had a busy week installing
3 sets of doors and 3 windows during phase 1 of this installation.

Included in the installation were OB36 doors and OW70 Soho windows finished in a beautiful colour, RAL 6009 Fir Green🌲

Let us know in the comments what you think of the colour… our customer loves it! 😍

Choosing the wrong glass can leave you with cold rooms, high heating bills, and unnecessary noise. Here are the essential glass specs every UK homeowner needs to check before ordering replacement windows:

1️⃣ U-Values (Thermal Efficiency)
This measures how much heat escapes. Lower is always better. Aim for 1.2 W/m²K or lower for double glazing (or under 0.8 W/m²K for triple).

2️⃣ Toughened vs. Laminated Glass
Toughened: Heat-treated safety glass that crumbles into safer small pieces, not dangerous shards.
Laminated: Remains bonded to an interlayer even when broken. Good for ground-floor security and acoustic soundproofing.

3️⃣ Low-E Coatings
Low-Emissivity coatings reflect radiant heat back into your living space while letting natural daylight in. It’s an easy way to boost your overall Energy Window Rating (EWR).

4️⃣ Gas Filled units (Argon vs. Air)
Standard air inside a sealed glazing unit still allows heat transfer. Argon gas filled units drastically slows thermal convection between the panes. Krypton gas is also used in slimmer glazing units but is typically more expensive.

Popped into this installation today, over 3 years after completion and it still looks brand new!

The customer wanted a completely flush threshold on both sets of sliding doors to create a seamless transition between the inside and outside. Working closely with the builder, we delivered exactly that.

We also installed a Crittall style internal aluminium door allowing natural light to flow from the extension into the main house.

The result speaks for itself.

What do you think of the finished result?
