Laying in some Sandtoft Neo clay tiles last week. Lovely tile to work with & a massive improvement on the AWFUL Norfolk/Suffolk hand made clay tiles that were previously on the roof. This job will be looking great once we finish up next week 👌🏽

A nice new double garage finished up in Brundull. I'm not a huge fan of the Old English Clay tiles. But I can't lie, in the Flanders colour, it does give a very nice finish.

This terraced house in NR2 was in desperate need of re-roofing. As well as replacing the old clay pan tiles to new, due to the fact that there were about 6 different varieties of tile on the roof, as well previous roffers had drilled nail holes into the tiles (which were never designed to be nailed)

All sorted now, the new Sandtoft Neo Plus clay pan tiles are on, and doing a much better job of keeping the water out. As well as new leadwork also helping to keep things in the dry.

From how you shouldn't fit a lead valley, to how you should.
•
Another valley that needed fixing, due to the previous 'Roofers' doing pretty much everything wrong.
They started by fixing down the valley cuts down with enough cement to hold up a house. Followed up by fixing the battens on top of the valley boards, and therefore through the lead valley trays!! Leaving plenty of holes in the lead which believe it or not doesnt help prevent water getting in. Topped off by nailing some of the valley cut tiles, leaving more goles in the lead 🙃

Quite worrying just how often i see these mistakes made in valleys. How are so many roofers carrying out such poor work?!
•
All sorted now, correct width and code of lead. Fixed using copper clouts. Nothing nailed into the lead. Battens now fixed properly up to the valley trays, not ON them!
•
Now just to get the tiles bedded down and cut. Leaving peace of mind for this customer, knowing its something they'll never have to worry about again!

Before you ask...Yes, I did hit my head about 1000 times on the scaffolding while getting this roof done. But it got done nonetheless!

Nice simple and easy roof here we got done, made even easier with such brilliant carpentry. Just a shame about the scaffold height 🤕

Been far too long since I've posted so thought I'd start it with yet another low pitch roof in Norwich done wrong!

All sorted now of course, but you can see how desperately it needed doing from the photos! Never had the correct tiles on in the first place (as usual) so it was only a matter of time til a leak came in.

All in the dry with some top quality low pitch clay tiles, leaving the customer happy & content!

This flat roof leak was helped out mainly by a bodge job done to the neighbouring flat roof!!
•
So this roof here used to pool at the back, which at first i thought was because of an incorrect fall set on the roof.
•
However, it turned out it was all down to next doors flat roof being done by a bunch of idiots. These two flat roofs used to be joined together and fall into a central gulley. But when next door was asking for a re-roof and some added insulation, they offered a cheaper price, which meant leaving the existing roof on, then insulating and sealing everything on top. Which is quite honestly, the stupidest suggestion you could make on a roof which has a shared central gulley which both roofs are falling towards.
•
Because of the roofers doing that, it meant the central gulley was roofed over as a result, meaning all the water falling from the roof pictured would get stuck and pool up, and in heavy rain, run over the lay board and cause a leak.
•
Nonetheless, it all got put right, fall adjusted, guttering added, and all sealed up nicely.
•
Moral of the story is, don't just go for the cheapest quote. Do your research, and neighbours, family & friends etc for recommendations when it comes to using tradesmen. Word of mouth will never be beaten. Use a trusted, recommended local tradesmen! Don't just go for the cheapest quote. (I'd also avoid websites like trust a trader, still plenty of bodgers on there, BELIEVE ME).

Taking off a roof and finding out that the plasterboard for the entire upstairs bedroom was fixed to the roof side of the rafters is something I've never seen before. After having to rip all the plasterboard off in the process of replacing the roof, I really hope I never come across it again!!
•
Never nice when a job like this uncovers bigger issues like this. But the customers were very understanding, and happy to get things put right. A lot more work needed than first planned on this one, but the end result really made it worthwhile.

Nice Re-Roof in NR2 done earlier this year. The customer decided to re-use the existing tiles, so it was just a matter of finding some matching reclaimed tiles to account for the many incorrect, broken & damaged tiles to be replaced!
