A LITTLE BATHROOM JOB WRAPPED UP… 👌

Another one completed at Trusted Touch Plastering!

This time it was a bathroom window wall, taking it from plasterboard through to two coats of finishing plaster.

🔹 Wall drylined with plasterboard
🔹 Window reveals beaded
🔹 Joints scrim taped
🔹 Two coats of plaster applied

I’ve included a few photos showing the different stages, with the final trowelled finish pictures still to follow. 👍

A FEW MORE CEILINGS TICKED OFF THIS WEEK… 👌

Good progress on this property, working my way through several different areas, including the hallway, bedroom, bathroom and bay window ceiling.

Some straightforward. Some a little more awkward. All getting the same attention to detail.

I actually enjoy jobs like this where there’s multiple areas to get stuck into. You can make a proper difference to the property rather than just being in and out for one small repair.

Still more to do, so I’ll share the finished results once everything comes together. 👍

🚨 ELECTRICS OR PLASTERING FIRST? GETTING THE ORDER RIGHT CAN SAVE A LOT OF HASSLE.

If you’re renovating and having new sockets, switches or lighting installed, the electrical work will usually happen in stages.

⚡ First fix normally comes before plastering.

This is when cables are run and back boxes are positioned while the walls and ceilings are still accessible.

🧱 Then comes the plastering.

The walls can be repaired, boarded or skimmed around the electrical boxes as required.

⚡ Second fix follows once the plaster has dried sufficiently and the project is ready for the electrical accessories to be fitted.

That’s when switches, sockets and other fittings are installed and the electrical work is completed and tested as required.

Planning the trades in the right order helps avoid unnecessary cutting or damage to newly finished walls.

FIRST FIX → PLASTER → SECOND FIX

Simple when it’s planned properly.

🚨 WHAT’S THAT MESH TAPE PLASTERERS PUT OVER PLASTERBOARD JOINTS?

It’s called scrim tape.

Plasterboard walls and ceilings are made from individual sheets, creating a joint wherever two boards meet.

Scrim is applied across these joints before skimming to reinforce them and help reduce the risk of cracking.

You may also see it used on certain repairs and internal junctions where appropriate.

One important thing to remember:

SCRIM DOESN’T MAKE PLASTER CRACK-PROOF.

If the boards, timber or building itself moves, cracking can still occur.

Once everything is skimmed, the scrim disappears completely.

SIMPLE MATERIAL. IMPORTANT JOB.
