Salcey Forest - Forestry England

Salcey Forest - Forestry England Salcey Forest is an oasis of nature and history only 7 miles from the centre of Northampton. Salcey Forest is managed by Forestry England.

Located only 7 miles from the centre of Northampton, Salcey Forest is an oasis of nature and history
This magnificent woodland has many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees. The 'druids', or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old. See what you can spot on your visit to the medieval royal hunting forest. We’ve

got endless walking trails, a family cycling trail (with bike hire available on site), adventure play area and even an onsite café selling tasty homemade meals and cakes in a warm, friendly environment. For over 100 years, we have been growing, shaping and caring for over 1,500 of our nation’s forests for the benefit and enjoyment of all, for this generation and the next. With your help and support, we care for more land and trees than any other organisation in England. Shaping landscapes for people, wildlife and timber.

Celebrating our volunteers this Volunteers Week💚

A huge thank you to all our volunteers that help make Salcey Forest a great place to visit. Clearing vegetation to keep trails open, maintaining facilities, litter picking, they help us with it all and we couldn't do it without them.

Inter-row mowing might look simple, but it plays a vital role in helping young trees grow strong. By controlling grasses and woody vegetation, we prevent them from being smothered while still leaving enough cover to protect them from the summer heat.

At the same time, these more open spaces create the perfect basking spots for reptiles like lizards 🦎 and make it easier for birds of prey to hunt, helping keep the forest in balance.

It’s all part of how we carefully manage the forest—supporting both new woodland and the wildlife that calls it home. 🌿

Thanks to our Northants Beat Forester, for these great pictures.

🌲✨ Support the forest you love ✨🌲

When you become a Forestry England member, you’re helping us care for wildlife, maintain our woodlands, and keep trails and facilities open for everyone to enjoy.

Plus, you’ll get free parking for a whole year – so you can visit again and again. 🚗🌳

It’s a simple way to give something back while making the most of everything the forest has to offer. 💚 www.forestryengland.uk/membership

48 hours to parkrun 🚨

The volunteer rota is looking very empty 😱

By 5pm tomorrow, we need (at a minimum 😢)
Barcode scanner
Finish tokens
2 x marshal
Tail walker

And possibly a car park marshal & another time keeper would be nice

We appreciate that it's the school half term which is always a challenge (especially as a lot of our amazing DofE gang are away) but we can't go ahead without a minimum number of volunteers.

When the temperatures rise, there’s no better place to be than beneath a leafy canopy. Our forests are a natural shady oasis – perfect for staying cool while you walk, cycle or relax.

Take a break from the heat, and enjoy a little calm in the trees 🍃💚
