New project award - Roadchef Magor | Works Commencing 5th May

Colonial are proud to be heading back on site with Roadchef - a long-standing client we have delivered everything from Costa Coffee drive-thrus to ongoing maintenance updates for across their estate.

From 5th May, we are delivering a full resurfacing and reconfiguration programme at Magor Services:

✅ Planing & resurfacing following a diesel spill
✅ Night works including 2 full overnight closures
✅ Relining throughout
✅ Car park entrance reconfiguration for improved customer access

A busy motorway services never stops — and that is exactly where our project management expertise and on-site supervision come into their own. Keeping people safe, programmes on track, and operations running in a fully live environment.

New Project Award: Global Reach Logistics

Colonial is pleased to announce our appointment by James Rowcroft from Roger Hannah & Co Ltd to refurbish this 250,000 sq. ft. facility following fire damage. Work to restore the office envelope and building services will start in early May.

The project will be delivered in two key stages:

Phase 1: Strip Out & Remediation - initial focus is on site stabilization and the removal of fire and water-damaged materials:
- Shell Strip Out: Full M&E removal and first-floor strip-back.
- Decontamination: Specialized cleaning of the first floor and associated office areas.
- Prep Works: Removal and reinstatement of wall linings, ceilings, and floor finishes (including raised access flooring) ready for fit out.

Phase 2: Reinstatement & Refurbishment - full technical and structural restoration of the site:
- Building Services: reinstatement of the server room, distribution boards, fire alarms, CCTV, and air conditioning.
- Internal Fit-Out: Refurbishment of the ground floor, front entrance, and first-floor amenities (toilets/showers), alongside a specialist lift refurbishment.
- Structural & External: Office roof replacement and partial cladding installation, including necessary repairs to the heat-damaged structural frame.

How do you keep a project on track? You keep talking.

No construction project is without its challenges. The difference between a minor complication and a significant problem is timely and constructive communication!

Our current five-apartment development for Mind in Kettering is a prime example. Issues like the constrained site and challenging weather (among others) have presented obstacles but with an open and constructive dialogue from board members and the supply chain to the immediate neighbours—we have turned potential roadblocks into positive outcomes.

The results speak for themselves: strong programme progress, a well-maintained site, positive community relations, a clear completion schedule, and proactive snagging throughout delivery to ensure the highest quality handover on 9th June.

Next steps are second fix carpentry and mechanical and electrical works……. follow us for progress.

At Colonial, we are committed to creating lasting value within our local community and a key part of this work is our close partnership with The Saints Foundation. The foundation does vital work using the values of rugby to inspire and educate thousands of people every year, and we are proud to support their mission.

The Foundation is currently expanding its Employability and Skills programme, working with local colleges, councils, and employers to help those aged 16–24 gain the confidence and qualifications needed to enter the workforce or further education.

Training continues for this fantastic challenge! The Colonial Team will be braving all elements to scale Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just 24 hours, raising funds for charities close to our heart - Mind mental health charity and Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

We are passionate about a challenge and both these charities, who rely on fundraising to provide vital services and progress in understanding more about these illnesses and how we can tackle them head on.

We are proud to announce that our Managing Director has been appointed to the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) Levy Strategy Committee! Matt already serves on the CITB Nations Council for England and the appointment to the LSC is a huge honour for Colonial Construction as a business, as this committee determines and shapes the way funding for the construction industry is shaped for the future.
