The Government has published a new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), with changes that could provide greater support for agricultural and rural development.
The new policy gives substantial weight to the benefits of farm and agricultural modernisation where proposals can demonstrate benefits to:
π Domestic food production
π Animal welfare
π The environment
There is also continued support for the growth and diversification of rural businesses, including the conversion of existing buildings and appropriate new development.
For farmers and landowners considering new agricultural buildings, improvements to existing farm infrastructure, diversification or the conversion of redundant buildings, the changes could create new opportunities.
Planning requirements still apply and every site needs to be considered on its individual merits β but the direction of national policy is increasingly supportive of appropriate agricultural development.
