Good morning. The content of this post isn't quite what I was planning but after a friend of many years and regular customer of mine had a very close call, we both agreed it's worth sharing.
Swept and checked in the summer, my friend lit their stove for the first time a couple of nights ago. Alight for less than an hour, the smoke alarm went off and my friend found the pre dried logs stacked against the sides of the stove were glowing and smoking heavily. Thankfully, they were discovered in time, quickly removed and some dreadful consequences avoided.
It's perfectly reasonable to keep, and even dry out logs more in the vicinity of your stove or fireplace but please, as all Sweeps will tell you, don't stack them against the sides of your wood burners and stoves.
A note for all my customers from last year please, if you haven't heard from me already, you'll be getting your reminder text, with the guarantee of a convenient appointment 3-4 weeks before your annual sweep is due.
Thanks for your time, Pete the Sweep
