A project we are really proud of ✨

This bespoke family home in Nottinghamshire was designed in collaboration with a private client and the image really speaks for itself.

Alongside residential projects like this, we also work across commercial, extra care, education and masterplanning.

Always great to hear homeowner feedback πŸ’š

Almost 10 years on from completion, Tina from Woodlands Edge shared her experience of living there.

"We love our house, which is modern and spacious, with loads of natural light.
Our electric bills are low, because of the construction of the house, which is basically built from insulated form-work, infilled with concrete, which gives the house a mega thermal advantage, and stable warm temperature all year round."

Woodlands Edge is a unique 29-home development on the outskirts of Lincoln, that we designed to achieve exceptional thermal performance.

Looking back at one of our commercial projects πŸš—

We were appointed as architects on the renovation of two BMW dealership showrooms for Astle BMW & Mini, across sites in Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

The Β£850k redevelopment covered a significant scope of work including new curtain walling, a dedicated handover bay, valeting bay and service store, full office refurbishment and new flooring throughout. The showroom was also split into two separate spaces to give BMW and Mini their own distinct areas.

A really varied project and a great example of the commercial work we deliver. ✨

Easthorpe Green had some visitors last week ✨

The Future Homes Hub visited Easthorpe Green, a development designed by Franklin Ellis Architects and delivered by us for Gusto Homes, to learn more about building to the AECB CarbonLite standard.

The morning included a presentation from Steff, covering the history of Gusto Homes and the innovative developments they have delivered over the years, followed by a guided tour of the site with the chance to see AECB CarbonLite rated homes at various stages of construction.

Some brilliant conversations and a great example of the interest there is in high performance, low-energy housebuilding. πŸ‘πŸ½

A great achievement for Ian πŸ‘πŸ½

Last year, Ian Dick, our BIM Manager, completed formal training with the BRE in ISO 19650, the international standard for information management.

Over two full day sessions, Ian covered the essentials of BIM and how to successfully deliver information management in practice. The training led him to become a BIM Informed Professional, giving him the knowledge to implement policies and practices for our technical teams to follow.

BIM is becoming increasingly important for Architects and it's important to us that Studio G stays ahead.

Well done Ian! πŸ’š

Thinking about a self-build? 🏠

This 5-bed home was designed in close collaboration with the client. They wanted all their children to have space when they came home, whilst having a home built to a really high standard with sustainability at its core.

The result is a beautiful home featuring an MVHR system and photovoltaic panels, which on completion achieved a high A-rated EPC.

We love working closely with a client from the very start, designing a space that's genuinely built around how they want to live. Get in touch, we'd love to design your dream home. πŸ’š

Careers fair at St Giles Academy πŸŽ“

This week, Heba and Jasmine from Gusto Construction headed to St Giles Academy in Lincoln to take part in their careers fair.

They talked to students about what their jobs look like day to day and the opportunities available in the construction and architecture industry. The students had a go at building with bricks and tested their quick-fire maths skills on the spinning wheel (a more important skill in the industry than you might think!)

It was a really enjoyable morning and great to see so much enthusiasm from the students. πŸ‘πŸ½

One of Newark's most loved buildings 🀍

We've recently submitted a Listed Building Consent application for internal safety works at The Palace Theatre in Newark.

The works cover three areas: new catwalks above the auditorium boxes, a new backstage catwalk platform and ladder, and the replacement of the existing stage safety fire curtain.

The challenge with a project like this is making sure the safety improvements don't compromise the historic character of the building. The new catwalks will be finished in matt black to sit quietly within the auditorium, and the replacement fire curtain will match the appearance of the existing one.

The Palace Theatre is a really special building and it's great to be involved in keeping it safe and open for years to come. 🎭

The Constructing Excellence Midlands awards are almost here! πŸ†

We're finalists for the Social Impact award for Collingham Brook alongside Gusto Construction, a development designed to reduce social isolation and bring the community together.

We're in great company in our category and it's brilliant to see so many impactful projects recognised. Good luck to everyone tomorrow night πŸ‘πŸ½

A different kind of project πŸ‘‡πŸ½

We've recently submitted a Listed Building Consent application for repair works to a historic boundary wall in Newark.

The wall sits to the rear of 15 Wilson Street, a Grade II listed Georgian building, and borders the churchyard of St Mary Magdalene Church, a Grade I listed church.

The wall had developed a significant lean and was considered unstable, so careful repair works are needed to preserve it for the long term. Every original brick will be salvaged, cleaned and reused wherever possible, with the wall rebuilt using traditional lime mortar to match the historic fabric as closely as possible.
