So, I'm back from the BS7671 Amendment 4 Seminar, and it was very informative, and I have a new library of books to read through !
Anyway I will do a review video for the channel shortly, but an immediate change will be the following:
Inspections will no longer include remedial work and will be separately charged. This is a change in the regs, that maybe a lot of Inspectors already do, and I will be falling into line with that from today. FI or Further Investigation classification is being phased out, and where possible should no longer be used. It works or it doesn't on an EICR from now on.
Why has this been done ? Simply put - An Inspectors job is going to be exactly that - An Inspector. In a lot of cases Inspectors don't do the remedial work if needed, that is allocated to another Electrician. From now on, the inspection for an EICR, will be just that, an inspection, even though I will still carry out the remedial work, but it will be at the discretion of the client. Unless it's dangerous or it's failed an EICR, you are under no obligation to have remedial work completed.
The exception to this, is if a dangerous or potentially dangerous fault is found, then if possible it will be fixed at the same time.
