Another project completed in collaboration with clients we’ve had the pleasure of working with before, this time a stunning new home in Lympstone.

Set within a conservation area and on a technically challenging site, the design carefully balances its context with a more contemporary response. A cantilevered first floor frames views into a private courtyard, while to the rear the house opens out towards the Exe Estuary, with terraced gardens shaped directly from the landscape.

Environmental performance was a key driver throughout, with concealed solar panels and heat pumps integrated into the design to support a low-energy home.

A rewarding project from start to finish, and a real team effort with some fantastic people to work alongside.

We are starting something new: PMR Trail Network.
A relaxed monthly mountain bike ride at Haldon Forest for people working in construction and the built environment. The first get together is scheduled for June.

The format is simple, a relaxed mountain bike ride followed by coffee and breakfast.

This is aimed at those working in the construction industry - engineers, contractors, surveyors, consultants and suppliers, those who are keen to meet others in the industry in a more informal setting.

It’s not about speed or ability, just a good ride, good conversation, and a chance to build connections outside the usual day-to-day.

We’re pleased to shine a spotlight on our Director, Ashley Harrison, who leads our Brighton & Hove office.
Ashley is a highly creative Architect with a holistic approach to design, bringing ideas to life through a combination of freehand sketching, 3D modelling and clear strategic thinking. From early concept through to completion, he works closely with clients to unlock the full potential of every scheme, balancing ambition with practicality.
With experience across residential, education and commercial sectors, Ashley’s ability to efficiently develop ideas and communicate them clearly is a real strength for our Brighton & Hove team.
Outside of the studio, Ashley is the adventurer of PMR having recently returned from taking on The Adventurists Rickshaw Run in Sri Lanka. The several-hundred-kilometre journey across the country (in what can only be described as a glorified tuk-tuk!) helped raise money for Cool Earth charity.

We’re pleased to share that planning permission has been granted for the transformation of Kingsteignton Church Hall for the Kingsteignton United Reformed Church.
The project will establish the hall as the Church’s primary place of worship through the creation of a new purpose built chapel space, alongside wider improvements to accessibility, functionality, and the building’s relationship with its surroundings within the conservation area.
Working within the simple existing form of the hall, the proposals introduce a series of carefully considered contemporary interventions, including a light filled chapel space, improved connections to the memorial garden, and a renewed entrance designed to create a more welcoming and inviting presence for the community.
This project has been particularly meaningful as it responds not only to the practical needs of the congregation, but also to the long-term future of an important local community space.
We look forward to helping the project progress.

A few progress images from a recent site visit. It’s great to see progress on site at Yarner Wood, with groundworks now well underway for the new Woodland Centre.

We’re looking forward to the next stage, as the glulam frame begins to take shape. The structure is being delivered by Buckland Timber, whose expertise in engineered timber will play a key role in bringing the building to life.

Working with , the project is designed as a low-impact, off-grid building that sits carefully within its woodland setting at Yarner Wood National Nature Reserve.

As the structure starts to emerge, it will be exciting to see the design move from groundwork into form, and how the building begins to relate to its surroundings.

We’ll continue to share updates as the project progresses.

We’re pleased to be working with .abbot.museum on an exciting new addition to their much-loved community space.

Housed within a Victorian church, the museum offers hands-on displays, fascinating collections, and spaces designed for curiosity, creativity and conversation. It plays an important role at the heart of the local community, and through this project we are keen to support and strengthen that role.

PMR Architecture has been appointed to develop the technical design for a new extension, which will provide specialist archival storage alongside improved accessibility and enhanced community facilities.

Led by Shaun Davey, the scheme is designed to be as low energy as possible, incorporating passive design principles to improve performance and reduce long-term energy use. A contemporary mirrored cladding is proposed, subtly reflecting the existing stone façades and allowing the new intervention to sit comfortably alongside the historic building.

We’re looking forward to continuing our involvement on site as the project progresses.

We’re excited to be working with Natural England on the new Woodland Centre at Yarner Wood National Nature Reserve, in the heart of Dartmoor National Park.

The project will deliver an off-grid building, constructed using locally sourced timber, and designed to sit sensitively within its woodland setting.

The new centre will provide a flexible, multi-use space to support Natural England’s public-facing ambitions at Yarner Wood, creating opportunities for learning, engagement and day-to-day use by staff and visitors alike.

Construction is scheduled to start very soon, so we’re looking forward to keeping you updated on progress.

Sometimes, the biggest improvements come from taking a step back and rethinking the brief.

What started as a simple utility extension became a full ground floor transformation. By slightly increasing the extension, we were able to unlock a much more ambitious and effective ground floor layout for this home, delivering far more value and impact for our client.

A great result all round - thanks Phil for the kind feedback.
