🎨 O’Briens Painting and Decorating — 4 years on…

Over 4 years ago, I decided to take a chance and start my own little decorating business — literally from nothing.

No real knowledge of the decorating trade, no experience and certainly no idea just how much I would have to learn along the way! 😂

What I did have was a huge amount of determination and a genuine desire to succeed, build something I could be proud of and, most importantly, create a business that people could trust.

Fast forward over 4 years and I honestly couldn’t be prouder of how far O’Briens Painting and Decorating has come.

My knowledge of the trade, products, preparation and processes has grown massively, and I’m still learning every single day. I don’t think you ever stop learning in this trade, and that’s something I really enjoy.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the amount of repeat business I now receive. Customers inviting me back into their homes time and time again is probably the biggest compliment I could receive. It shows me that they trust me, value my work and are happy with the service I provide.

Building strong relationships with both local businesses and customers has always been hugely important to me. I want O’Briens Painting and Decorating to be known not just for top-class decorating, but for great customer service, reliability, honesty and a friendly approach.

At the end of the day, I’m still the same person who started this little business over 4 years ago with nothing but a determination to make it work.

The difference now is the experience, knowledge, amazing customers and fantastic relationships that have been built along the way.

So, to every customer who has trusted me with their home, recommended me, booked me again, left a review or simply supported my business — thank you. ❤️

There’s still plenty more I want to achieve, and I’ll continue learning, improving and building O’Briens Painting and Decorating one job at a time.

🏡 Another Teignmouth transformation completed today!

I had the pleasure of finishing this lovely little mid-terraced house in Teignmouth today — taking it from a tired, dusty cream to a vibrant olive green with black accents. And I have to say, the colour is absolutely lush! 👌

There was loads of preparation involved on this one, with some really bad flaking paint on the sills, chimney stack and base strips.

I started by scraping everything back thoroughly, then applying a couple of coats of Zinsser Peel Stop to lock everything down before filling and painting.

There were also several cracks in the walls which were carefully dug out, treated with Peel Stop, filled with Toupret Fibacryl, top-filled and then painted.

And while I was up at the top, I decided to do the customer a little favour and give the chimney stack a freshen-up too. It’s the little things that can make a big difference! 👍

Another happy customer, and the property now has some seriously good kerb appeal.

Really pleased with how this one has turned out — that olive green and black combination is 👌

So today we are back in Teignmouth doing another external before the weather hits us all.

Today is all about prep, taping and covering all the windows, scraping back an enormous amount of flaking paint and getting everything ready for painting. Fungal washing this afternoon then tomorrow it’s on with the filler, peel stop to bind all the old flaking paint down, and Wednesday/Thursday on with the painting.

Recommend by the customers neighbour after doing her house last year and seeing how nice it looked and the improvement in kerb appeal.

Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

🏡 Another return visit for a lovely customer!

I’ve just been back to another customer’s home for what I think is my 8th or 9th time now! 🎨

Honestly, this is one of the biggest compliments I could ask for. It shows that customers trust me in their homes, are happy with the work I do, and enjoy having me back time and time again.

This time round it was a little job of smartening up the exterior stone work, priming and painting, after some unsightly stains had become visible and ingrained into the stone work.

Building these relationships and seeing customers return for more work is a huge part of why I love what I do.

🏡 Another beautiful transformation in Dawlish! 🎨

I’ve had the pleasure of redecorating this lovely home over the last few weeks, transforming the lounge, hallways, kitchen and summer room.

As always, it was all about the preparation. There were some large cracks to deal with, which were scraped back, treated with Peel Stop, Toupret Fibacryl and tape, before being filled, primed and painted.

The lounge and dining room were fully stripped back, sanded smooth, treated with Zinsser Gardz, filled and prepared ready for painting.

For the walls I used Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt, with Johnstone’s Perfect Matt on the ceilings. The skirting boards were BIN-primed, undercoated and finished in Johnstone’s Aqua Guard for a tough, durable finish.

The end result is a fresh, clean and modern finish throughout, with plenty of preparation gone into making sure it looks great and stands the test of time. 👌

I started O’Briens Painting and Decorating just 4 years ago, completely from scratch, with no real idea where it would take me.

So when a customer takes time out of their day to message me like this, completely out of the blue, it genuinely makes my day.

I put a huge amount of care, pride and attention to detail into every job, always doing it to the very best of my ability.

It’s a privilege whenever a customer trusts me not only with their decorating project but also welcomes me into their home. I never take that trust for granted, and I always aim to treat every property with the same care and respect as if it were my own.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding service from Rightway Scaffolding!

I honestly can’t recommend the team at Rightway Scaffolding highly enough.

They recently put up scaffolding for me on a job in Shaldon, which was certainly not the easiest of jobs! With difficult access and some really tricky areas to work around, getting the scaffolding erected safely and effectively was a challenge — but the team worked their magic.

They were professional, incredibly helpful and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They came up with solutions to make the access work, and the finished scaffold gave me exactly what I needed to safely carry out the work.

It made a potentially very difficult job so much easier and was a massive help in getting the project completed to the standard I wanted.

A brilliant team, great service and nothing seemed too much trouble. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Rightway again and would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable scaffolding company.

I’ve also asked them to erect a further job in Teignmouth which requires a road licence and once again tricky access. I’m sure it won’t be too much trouble.
