Blow the Winds. The kitchen, up close.

No handles. Just a recessed rail with a strip of light running the full length of it, so the edge reads as a line rather than a fitting.

Worktop and splashback are the same slab, running continuous, which means every socket cut-out had to land exactly where it was drawn. There's no adjusting it afterwards.

Most of the work in a kitchen is in the bits you look straight past.

Blow the Winds. Doors open, and the room just carries on outside.

The floor runs level all the way out. No step, no lip - a channel drain across the threshold takes the water instead. Underfloor heating in the slab, so every millimetre of that build-up had to be worked out before anything was poured.

It's a small thing that takes a lot of getting right. When it's right you don't notice it at all.

Boots by the door. Which is the point of the whole thing, really.

The Glimpse, from the outside.

White boarding, a metal roof, and a flue that sits proud of the ridge. It's a small building on an exposed plot and everything on it has to earn its place.

The steps and the planters were the last thing to go in. Corten, so it can rust and be left alone.

Thirty degrees on a scaffold is no joke. Nobody's pretending otherwise.

But you look up and that's the view. Porth, on a Tuesday, in the middle of a heatwave.
Roof battens on, cladding started. Getting it closed in before the weather turns, which in Cornwall could be Thursday.

There are worse places to be swinging a nail gun. Not many better.

The living area at The Glimpse.

Timber-lined walls, reclaimed boards underfoot, and a stove tucked in under the stairs. Not a big space, but it doesn't need to be.

Most of the work here was quiet. Getting the lining to sit right, keeping the floor, working around what was already there rather than starting again.

Open the door and you're straight out onto the gorse.

Not much need for the stove this week ☀

The Glimpse in the heat. The veranda has been doing all the work - it's the only place anyone wants to sit right now.

Nice to see a Cornish project in proper sun for once.

More before and afters from The Glimpse, Chapel Porth.

The front entrance mid-build through to completion. The veranda framed up and clad, custom doors fitted, and the Corten raised beds planted up with coastal grasses.

Inside, the bathroom went from bare stud walls and a herringbone tile layout to board-lined ceiling, plantation shutters, and a reclaimed clawfoot bath.

Three different stages, same project. Everything designed with and built to suit the site.

The kitchen at The Glimpse, Chapel Porth.

No fitted units. The cabinets are reclaimed, the shelving is open, and the floor is salvaged timber from a decommissioned chapel in East Anglia. If you look closely on the last photo you can still see the original inscriptions in the wood.

Nothing in this room was bought new for the sake of it. The owner wanted materials with a bit of life already in them and the space is better for it.

Who doesn't love a satisfying before and after shot?

These are three moments from the build process from The Glimpse over in Chapel Porth.

The roof was fully rebuilt and clad. Upstairs, an open dormer became a board-lined study looking out across the moorland. Downstairs, a bare shell with exposed joists became a living room with reclaimed timber floors and a wood burner.

We worked with on this one from the start. Every space was designed around the views and built to handle the coastal exposure.

Project Highlight | The Glimpse 🌅

A First World War ammunition store on the headland at Chapel Porth, converted into a full-time home.

When we came on site, it was stripped back to bare concrete. No insulation, no services, no roof worth keeping. The foundations had never been properly underpinned.

We worked with Marraum Architects from the start. Foundations were underpinned, the roof was fully rebuilt, and the whole envelope was brought up to high-performance spec - full insulation, airtight construction, underfloor heating throughout.

The brief was to make it perform without losing the character. Flooring is reclaimed timber from a decommissioned chapel. Joinery is all bespoke. Every window was positioned to frame the coastline - that's where the name comes from.
