A big bracket spotted on this tree today đ
This is Phellinus pomaceus, a bracket fungus commonly found on plum and other Prunus trees. It feeds on the wood inside the tree and causes a type of decay known as white rot.
By the time these brackets appear, decay is often already well established inside the branch or trunk, which can weaken the structure over time.
Not every tree with fungi needs removing, but itâs always worth keeping an eye on things and assessing the risk.
If youâve noticed mushrooms or brackets appearing on trees in your garden, feel free to get in touch for advice.
