Day in the life of a Pond Guy… M1 edition 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Not quite the Bank Holiday weekend I had planned…

Van decided it had other ideas halfway down the M1, so today’s pond content comes to you live from the hard shoulder 😂

What a transformation! 🙌

This Bedfordshire pond has had some serious attention and is now back looking how it should!

What started as a very overgrown pond turned into a proper restoration — a thorough deep clean inside and out, pump and filter clean, replacement pipework and filter media, with fresh beneficial bacteria added to help get the biological filtration established again.

We even managed to get the old cascade waterfall back up and running, which really brought the whole pond back to life!

And after originally thinking there were around 13 fish in there… Mike and I counted 35 as we put them all back! 😆🐟

All the fish were safely held throughout, along with the newts, baby newts, frogs and toads we discovered along the way.

Really pleased with how this one turned out — and more importantly, Mike is delighted with his pond again!

We wait 5 months for rain and then it comes with a vengeance, half way through a pond job!

Waiting for it to pass now so I can crack on!

🐟 Well… 13 fish turned into 30+! 😆

Busy day in Bedfordshire today starting a deep clean on this beautiful established pond for a lovely gentleman.

Before we started, the owner thought there were around 13 fish in the pond…

We stopped counting at 30! 😂

And there are some absolute beauties amongst them — Mirror Carp, Common Carp, Koi, Ghost Carp, Tench and Orfe, with all sorts of different sizes hiding away in there.

But the fish weren’t the only residents! 🐸🦎

As we carefully worked our way through the pond we also discovered lots of newts, including some tiny youngsters, along with frogs and even toads!

Every creature gets looked after during a deep clean. The fish were safely transferred into our aerated temporary holding pond, while an old plastic fish tank made the perfect temporary home for the newts, keeping them safely out of harm’s way while the work is carried out.

The existing pump and filter were also thoroughly cleaned and temporarily rerouted to the holding pond, providing the fish with continued filtration and circulation throughout the job. 👌🏼

A proper pond clean isn’t just about making it look good — protecting the wildlife and fish living in it is just as important. ❤️

Back tomorrow to continue the transformation and get this beautiful pond back to its best!

Just another glamorous day in the life of a small business owner… 🤣🛞

Today’s carefully planned schedule took a slight detour thanks to a completely flat tyre. 🤦🏻‍♂️

No breakdown crew. No fleet manager. No maintenance department.

Just me, a spare wheel and a jack that technically belongs to a Vauxhall Meriva😂

Wheel changed, crisis averted, and back on the road. 💪🏼

Back in St Neots for a regular maintenance visit 💦

Last time we were here, we treated a blanket w**d problem using Cloverleaf Blanket Answer — and it’s done exactly what we wanted. Blanket w**d gone! 👌🏼

Today was simply about keeping things that way — vacuuming debris from the bottom of the pond and giving the filters a good clean.

A nice example of why regular pond maintenance pays off. Deal with problems early, then keep on top of the basics to keep everything looking and running as it should.
