Happy Riding Thursday turned out to be more of a Wet Thursday! ☔️

Heather and I still managed a quick ride on Ragdoll, but for the rest of the ponies it was a duvet day. I had absolutely no enthusiasm for washing ponies ahead of the Three Counties Show the following day, but it had to be done, whatever the weather!

Fortunately, with a later start, we headed off to the show in much nicer conditions.

We were delighted that Snelsmore Aragorn won the Miniature Three Years and Under class. As there was no Junior Championship, I decided not to take him forward for the Overall Championship and instead finish on a good note. Snelsmore Mystique then rounded off our day by winning her mare class before going on to take the Reserve Championship.

What can I say about this mare that I haven’t already said?
She truly is one in a million. ❤️

Only the day before, she was being bathed by three-year-old Heather. After sadly losing her foal in April, Mystique has remained the ultimate professional, taking everything in her stride. To see her looking so well, enjoying herself, and going on to be Reserve Champion was special moment.

We couldn't be prouder of her, and it will be exciting to watch Heather and Mystique continue their journey together in the ring as Heather grows up.

What a change in the weather!

We’re so glad we attended the South of England Show yesterday, as the conditions were far kinder than they are today, it feels more like winter than summer!

Although entries were low, and a last-minute change of judge may not have helped numbers, we are incredibly proud of our ponies and their results.

We were delighted with Snelsmore Zeus on his first outing of the season and his first show as an adult. He came off the lorry full of confidence and ready for the day ahead, before settling beautifully and behaving impeccably throughout. Although he was the only entry in his class, the outing gave him valuable ring experience and was a lovely way to start his season.

Snelsmore Blossom was a star once again, winning her class of three against some strong three-year-old ponies. Thank you to Sally for taking over the reins the championship where she was awarded Reserve Miniature Champion.

A lovely day and plenty to be proud of.

Website update at Snelsmore!

We’ve updated Snelsmore Quail’s profile page and added her to our For Sale page on the website. Quail has been covered by Snelsmore Spectre for a 2027 foal and would make a wonderful sensible pony for a young handler. She has proven herself to be quiet, kind, and willing to please, or she could continue her successful role as a broodmare.
She is up to date with her primary flu vaccinations.

We’ve also updated Champion’s profile picture. This lovely little c**t is easy to handle and just needs time to mature. He would make a fantastic pet or companion.

We now have ten foals on the ground so far, with a few more still to come! We’ll be gradually adding them to the website as time allows, so keep checking back for updates.

Yesterday we were at the Bath & West Show with two ponies, Snelsmore Venus and Snelsmore Blossom, and these girls did us proud.

The first class of the day was a strong mare class for Venus, and we were delighted to win it, a great start to our day. Next up was our two-year-old filly Blossom, who once again strutted her stuff full of enthusiasm to win the Two & Three-Year-Old Filly Class.

Blossom’s dam, Snelsmore Willow, won this very class as a two-year-old back in 2021, and now we have Blossom’s full sister to hopefully follow in their footsteps.

Venus went on to take Reserve Miniature Champion, while Blossom was the Junior Champion, finishing our day on a wonderful high. Let’s just hope the notorious A303 traffic didn’t spoil things on the journey home!

A huge thank you to Leann Stutt for once again stepping in for us in the championship — teamwork really does make the dream work.

Sunday was another hot day showing at Onley Grounds for the Fuss Show.

We took Snelsmore Aragorn and Snelsmore Quail for the mare classes. Entries were low, but it was valuable and much-needed practice for both ponies.
Aragorn was a good boy, winning the 2 & 3-year-old class, Junior Champion, and Reserve Miniature Champion. He learnt a lot and behaved well throughout the day.

Quail was attending only her second outing and had never been shown indoors before, but this lovely 13-year-old mare by Snelsmore Jasper took everything in her stride and behaved impeccably. Quail will shortly be added to our For Sale page on our website, Snelsmore.com.

Quail has been covered by Snelsmore Spectre for a 2027 foal. She would make a wonderful sensible pony for a young handler, proving herself to be quiet, kind, and willing to please, or she could continue her successful role as a broodmare.

We decided not to stay for the evening performance, with foals still expected at home, so lesson learnt, we headed home early.

A very hot day at the Hertfordshire County Show, with Shetland entries lower than usual this year, but at least this time we made it there on time!

Last year we were stuck on the motorway following an accident, helplessly watching the clock tick by as our classes came and went. It was such a relief this year to avoid the traffic and arrive in plenty of time to enjoy the day.

Both Snelsmore Ragdoll and Snelsmore Blossom won their classes before going on to take Champion and Reserve Miniature Championships. Ragdoll was then awarded Overall Shetland Champion and proudly represented the breed in the Non-Welsh Championship. Against a line-up of beautiful ponies, we were delighted when Ragdoll was selected as Reserve Champion.
But the biggest surprise was still to come, in a different ring, under two judges, Ragdoll was awarded the prestigious NPS Silver Medal.

It also gave me the perfect opportunity to try out my new Revive shampoo on Blossom, she smelt and looked amazing! I also used the Whiten Up shampoo again on Ragdoll, both made by Neem Horse UK, Overall, it was a truly enjoyable day for Cliff, the girls, and me.

Last Sunday we headed to NPS Area X1 Heart of England Show at Solihull with two ponies, Snelsmore Venus and Snelsmore Aragorn. After temperature checks, final packing, and loading the lorry, we set off at the respectable hour of 7am.
Although we were expecting a very wet day, the weather turned out kinder than forecast, with just a few heavy showers towards the end of the show. The classes were also much bigger than anticipated thanks to late entries, we probably could have enjoyed an extra hour in bed after all!
Aragorn was placed second in his class, while Venus had an incredible day, taking the Miniature Championship, the Overall Senior, and Reserve Supreme. We are so proud of this mare; after producing three foals, she is now back in the ring and looking better than ever.
A lovely day at a beautiful outdoor venue. Huge thanks to Dan and his team for a well-run show.

News of Snelsmore Ragdoll’s success at Royal Windsor clearly travelled home before she did… because a full fan club was waiting at the yard to welcome her back!

After flying the flag as Reserve Champion at Royal Windsor, “Ragdoll” wasted no time returning to her very important day job, being a much-loved riding pony.

Within minutes she was back to receiving endless cuddles, a generous supply of Omega Apple treats, and what can only be described as a wheelbarrow-sized mountain of hay fit for royalty.

One minute she’s in the spotlight at Royal Windsor, the next she’s carrying children around as if nothing happened. That’s what makes her so special, a pony who truly loves every part of her job and is adored by so many children along the way.

We couldn’t be prouder of this amazing little pony. ❤️

We may also have to give a little credit to the new shampoo from Neem Horse UK, Ragdoll’s whites bits were absolutely gleaming! Clearly ambassador life suits her… she does like to keep up her superstar appearance.

I’ve always been interested in natural products and trying to stay clear of synthetic sprays on the ponies’ manes and tails. Looking after our ponies inside and out is so important to us for achieving the very best results.

We are very lucky for many years to be ambassadors for Omega Equine, using their fantastic products and receiving advice from the Omega team whenever we need it. My granddaughter especially loves giving her pony, Ragdoll, the Omega apple-flavoured treats!

We are also delighted to have recently been asked to become ambassadors for the wonderful natural products made by Neem Horse UK and Equine Natural Science. We’ve used these products for quite some time now and have been so pleased with the results on both our show ponies and itchy broodmares.

Today, after a new parcel arrived, Ragdoll was transformed from a much-loved child’s riding pony into a sparkling piebald pony fit for the show ring at Royal Windsor! We’re really pleased to announce that Snelsmore Zeus has received a clear results for Skeletal Atavism.
As his sire, Romany Beau, carries the mushroom gene, we also tested Zeus for this, and the results came back as negative for the mushroom gene.
He is a striking individual, and his coat colour completely fascinates me, black with a scattering of unusual white hairs through his coat. I believe the white hairs come from his dam, Snelsmore Libby, and ultimately traces back to Snelsmore Calipso who appears to have passed on similar coat patterns to many of his offspring.
With these results now confirmed, we can move forward with having Snelsmore Zeus and Snelsmore Zac Voluntary Vetted and either showing them in adult classes as stallions, or using them at stud.
We’re very excited about what the future holds for these boys.
