Meet one of our customers — four/five-bed home, previously on gas, with a boiler that honestly wasn't giving them any trouble. But they wanted to cut their emissions, and with the government grant available, the timing made sense.
It's a big home 280 sq.m, underfloor heating downstairs, radiators upstairs — so getting the sizing right really mattered here. We went slightly bigger than the minimum spec: enough capacity to comfortably match what their old gas boiler could do, and quiet enough that it wouldn't bother the neighbours either. We installed a Vaillant aroTHERM Plus 12kW with a 300-litre cylinder.
Since then? Running costs are lower most of the year, especially over summer. On the coldest days, when it's working hardest to hold their preferred 23°C, costs do creep up a bit — but that's the trade-off for genuinely not compromising on comfort.
They've already moved onto the next step of adding solar and a battery to bring costs down even further. A nice example of the whole-home approach coming together gradually, not all at once.
