And last but not least! Sneak Peek 👀 at Briarfield Gardens

The fifth and final garden open for charity as part of National Garden Scheme Burton Village Gardens open day. A collection of 5 wondrous spaces where you can allow yourself to embrace nature and all it offers.

Briarfield is no stranger to spectators! This year featured on BBC Gardeners World and also made an appearance early last year on BBC North west tonight. Come along and see it up close and personal.

Tucked under the south side of Burton Wood the garden is home to many specialist and unusual plants, some available in plant sale. This 2 acre garden is on two sites, a short walk along an unmade lane. Trees, shrubs, colourful herbaceous, bulbs, alpines and water features compete for attention. Deliberately left untidy through the winter for wildlife, the snowdrops love it. Erythronium are a feature of the garden in April. Always changing, Liz can't resist a new plant.

I love getting lost in our garden. I regularly write out lists of jobs and within minutes I get distracted by a plant that needs training, a delicate butterfly fluttering past in the sunshine, the frenetic activity of the bumble bees on the lavender. Some plants remind me of the people who gave me them. The list is never complete but I'm peaceful and happy.

The garden sits on a sandstone bluff, so much of our work over the past 5 years has been centered around improving the moisture retention in the soil with terracing, organic matter and mulches. This can be seen best in the dry garden, which was created 3 years ago and hasn't been watered since first planted. Last summer I worried I'd lost it but it's recovered and is looking better than ever. It's been fascinating to see what does and doesn't like these conditions. Salvia, bearded iris, allium and fig are all thriving and the pollinators love it.

The Coach House is a relatively young garden so there are always changes. Concious that the garden had no water, we have spent the year making a water feature and the planting is starting to settlle in. There are definitely changes and improvements to be made, but that's all part of the joy of it, as is learning to care for a whole new group of plants.

Though small, it is full of colour with a large mixed bed - mainly shrubs beside the house. a lawn with flower bed and many pots planted with summer bedding plants. About Trustwood

Trustwood is three quarters of an acre of woodland garden, featuring deep flower beds and two small ponds.

Over the past twelve years we have gradually developed the garden to encourage more wildlife. Our projects have included rejuvenating an old hedge by removing large sycamore trees and replanting with British native species, and in the garden by using plants that are insect friendly. The front garden (once a full sized hard tennis court) has raised beds with a mix of vegetables, fruit trees and flowers that attract pollinators. Our two ponds provide a home for frogs, newts and other water creatures.

During the last few years we have noticed the result of reduced rainfall on the garden and the stress put on some of the shrubs and plants. Summer 2025 was particularly challenging. To try and counter this we have added even more water butts, increased our use of compost and mulch to try and lock in moisture and redesigned several of the beds with more drought resistant plants.
