We are incredibly proud to have had involvement with this project via , along side many other contributors.
You are looking at the first ever timber framed bus shelter, Douglas Fir to be precise.
This is a significant step when it comes to green thinking, sustainability and changing the rule book when it comes to 'normal' design.
Initially rolled out in Essex along the electric bus route with further plans to see many more rolled out soon.

We’re proud to share that Doone Brae Farm, one of our most ambitious private housing projects to date, has been shortlisted for multiple awards at the 2025 Structural Timber Awards!

🔨 Custom & Self-Build Project of the Year

This ultra-low energy home in Hertfordshire was designed around our Larsen truss system, achieving exceptional performance with U-values of 0.1 W/m²K and airtightness of just 0.5 ACH — the best result ever recorded by the project’s assessor.

From the outset, collaboration was key. Working closely with JDW Architects, the client, and Paramount Structures Ltd, we developed a fabric-first approach that not only delivered architectural ambition but also a seamless, efficient build on site.

PROJECT FOCUS

Ivy Lane Development of three accommodation blocks for NHS staff in light gauge steel. The blocks were a combination of 4 and 5 storey buildings with a total footprint of 9000 m2. The designs for each building were developed across multiple phases in collaboration with the light gauge steel manufacturer to ensure that the designs were fully coordinated with all other disciplines on the design team. The overall designs were originally for concrete framed buildings which required significant detailing changes to convert to a prefabricated, low construction tolerance building material.

Hengrove Development of a 6 storey accommodation block with a concrete transfer structure at first floor level and the upper stories designed in light gauge steel. The building had a total footprint of over 4500 m2.

Through a carefully targeted ground investigation, Paramount were able to avoid the use of costly, deep foundations, even with the presence of trees and hedges nearby.
The foundation and ground floor design were optimised for cost, efficiency and build ability, whilst still maintaining compliance with building regulations, ensuring long-term structural integrity for this wonderful building.

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Daniel in our Edinburgh office for a work experience placement, giving him a glimpse into the dynamic and intricate world of structural engineering. Our talented team crafted a programme of design, drawing, and surveying exercises to challenge his mathematical skills and offer a real taste of the profession.

Daniel also had the chance to chat with our engineers and see first-hand the diverse projects we’re working on — from cutting-edge residential builds to complex commercial structures. And he was the first to test out our brand-new Matterport Pro 3 camera, capturing 3D visuals like a pro!

It was a fantastic week, and we wish Daniel every success as he explores his future career path. You’re welcome back anytime, Daniel — especially if you keep bringing those chocolate goodies! 🍫
