YEEHAH! GO GET ‘EM COWBOY.

We don’t usually accept 30th birthday celebrations at Mill End as it is a grade ll listed medieval building, full of art, things to do, spa facilities, incredibly well equipped kitchens and more glasses that you know what to do with (unless you are a mixologist of course).

I spoke at great length with this guy, he sounded civilised and so we took a punt! Having cook a seated and served dinner always helps as staff can gauge the state of the house.

Looks like the conversation and my intuition paid off. They had a ball and asked all the right questions pre-departure re cleaning and tidying.

Many thanks Rob and crew. Happy birthday and we hope your 30’s are fun filled, adventurous and successful. Enjoy your next decade!.

JAZZ IT UP

The best bedroom in the house. A four poster with antique curtains and throw. And a bath under the medieval, chamfered beams - dating back to the 1400’s.

Who gets this bedroom? The bride to be and chief bridesmaid on a ? The birthday boy or girl? The anniversary couple? The CEO of the company retreat or ? Or the wellnessretreat organiser?

We are surrounded by stunning countryside, woodland, dog walks and days out.

PHEASANT

Perched on a medieval beam in the room, keeping a watchful eye. Millend Mitcheldean, as the name suggests, sits at the bottom of a lane out of the village, once The Mill End.

Mill End is a quirky, - a self catering holiday let with kitchens so well equipped we’ve had professional chefs compliment us. Or in-house caterers Bo****lo Banquets can cook up a mean feast for you.

When we bought The General Stores, it was just that. A derelict village shop and derelict barn, with 3 bedrooms and pink pebbledash on the flat roof kitchen extension housing a grim 1970’s kitchen. How they thought that was appropriate against a building we will never know! Now it has a stunning green oak and timber framed garden room from Westwind Oak Buildings Ltd. Oak Frame Design and Construction.

MillEnd has 14 bedrooms and we live there half of the year. We LOVE it - as do our guests.

If you’d like to stay in 2027 and experience all that the quirky, art filled house has to offer, and make the most of Forest of Dean & Wye Valley Visit Forest of Dean Forest of Dean - Forestry England , DM PHEASANT for a box of chilled Kingsthorne Limited (local vineyard in the grounds of Flaxley Abbey (next hamlet) offering vineyard tours and Friday evening courtyard bar with local street food and live music.

LAST OF THE SUMMER W**E

(other half Zoff) has spent 3 hard days on his hands and knees re-pointing the courtyard before we hit the long, wet, winter season.

And we bagged some fab new chairs from on Sunday, via Facebook marketplace.

Our signature corten steel stag is glowing in the evening sunlight. Next to our corten steel candle holders settled in the ancient ‘bee skep holders or bee boles’ along the gable end of the barn. Ours are 1 of only 2 sets left in the whole of Gloucestershire. Back in the day, tightly woven bell shaped upside down baskets baskets were made to house the bees and then kept safe from the rain in these alcoves.

The BBQ area is a great spot as early evening sunshine shafts above the gate to warm guests while they use the or BBQ.

Get booked in for 2027 for some wonderful out door sizzling, griddling, BBQing and pizza-ing. You can even roast a chicken in the pizza over, perched atop an open can of b**r.

SMALL BUT PERFECTLY FORMED

The courtyard garden at Mill End has everything needed for a weekend away

Seating for alfresco dining, drinking & chatting for 30+
A 6 seater hot tub
A cold water immersion barrel
Up the oak steps, a sunken trampoline
And to the left, swings & play equipment for kids

Up the stone steps to the right, a pizza oven for hire and a wood fired solid steel plate BBQ. It is a beast!
Pots of fresh herbs next to the BBQ
And a resident Robin who hops around hopefully when we garden.

Behind you, in the green oak and glass room by there is a 3 sided solid fuel stove from and a pool table.

The courtyard is private but because the house is in a village location (no DJS/decks/outdoor music) you have takeaways, a family run butcher and a late co-op for late night replenishing of the cocktail bar or drinks chiller.

An hour from Bristol. 15 minutes from Ross on Wye for those who want to paddle board or canoe or just enjoy a pint by the river.

Try us? We’re booked till 2027 but enquiries are coming in fast for Spring and Summer…

BIRDS OF PARADISE. And a few fish.

Mill End Mitcheldean is a creatives paradise. Every bedroom is themed. Quirky wallpapers provide feature walls. Hand made cushions & vintage finds build the visual feast. And artwork by Bristol and London artists line the walls. A stuffed pheasant perches on the 60” year old medieval beam in the four poster room. And a taxidermy kak clings to a log in the Chinese room. Copies of ELLE Decoration UK and Polly Leonard are piled up to view. If you want to get a little bit inspired while hanging with your friends and family for a weekend, we’re the place for you.
