I wasnāt the clever kid š§
I wasnāt the one people expected to build a successful business.
School wasnāt where I found my confidence. If Iām honest, I spent a long time wondering what I was actually good at š
Then I found a paintbrush.
Growing up, Iād spend my time helping my dad decorate and improve homes. At the time, I probably thought I was just helping out, but looking back now, thatās where everything changed. Without even realising it, I was falling in love with a trade that would end up giving me purpose.
Fourteen years ago, I started as an apprentice plasterer with Oxon Services.
I threw everything I had into learning. I completed my apprenticeship ahead of schedule, then spent every opportunity I could learning different trades. I wanted to know more. Be better. Improve every day.
Eventually came the scariest decision of my careerā¦
Leaving the security of a company and taking a chance on myself.
It wasnāt easy.
Building a business never is.
But every happy customer, every recommendation and every completed project reminded me why Iād taken that leap in the first place.
Over the years, Iāve been fortunate enough to work with incredible people.
Iāve looked after properties for the McIntyre charity, helping maintain residentsā homesāfrom cutting grass to decorating bedrooms. Iāve completed work for a well-known professional footballer.
But hereās something Iāve realisedā¦
It doesnāt matter whose house Iām working in.
Whether itās someone famous, a young family buying their first home, an elderly couple who canāt manage anymore, or someone whoās simply saved for months to redecorate one roomā¦
The feeling is always the same.
Seeing someone smile because they finally love the place they call home.
Thatās the part Iāll never get tired of.
Recently, Iāve become passionate about dopamine decorating. Creating spaces that genuinely lift peopleās mood, bring them comfort and make them feel happier every single day. If you know, you knowā¦ and if you donāt, Iād love to show you what itās all about.
People often ask why I care so much.
The truth isā¦
A home is so much more than four walls.
Itās where families grow.
Where children take their first steps.
Where birthdays are celebrated.
Where people heal.
Where memories are made.
If I can play even the smallest part in making someone feel happier every time they walk through their front door, then Iāve done my job.
One of my biggest dreams isnāt to become the biggest decorating company.
Itās to become known as the company that genuinely cares.
As Elton-Interiors grows, my goal is to dedicate several days every month to offering free labour for people who need it most. Single parents. Pensioners. People living with disabilities. Families facing difficult times. Anyone who could use a helping hand.
Not because it makes good content.
Not because it gets attention.
But because somewhere along the way, this job stopped being just a way to earn a living.
It became my way of giving something back.
