🚨 WHAT’S HIDING UNDER YOUR DECKING? 🐀

This inspection revealed a heavily decking area with plenty of hidden voids, debris and potential harbourage beneath the structure.

Areas like this can provide the perfect conditions for rodents and other pests to establish themselves, particularly where there is shelter, food sources and undisturbed ground.

🔎 A thorough inspection is often where the real problem is found.

Our approach is about more than simply treating what you can see. We identify harbourage areas, access points and the conditions allowing pest activity to thrive, then recommend the appropriate control measures.

If you’ve got rodents around your property, don’t just treat the symptoms. Find out why they’re there in the first place.

🪳 German Cockroaches Found in a Kitchen 🪳

This video shows exactly why a German cockroach infestation shouldn’t be ignored.

German cockroaches are small, fast-moving and incredibly good at hiding. They can squeeze into tiny gaps around kitchen units, appliances, pipework and other warm areas, allowing an infestation to quickly become established.

In this case, we found active German cockroach activity within the kitchen, highlighting the importance of a thorough inspection and professional treatment plan.

🚨 Signs to look out for include:
• Live cockroaches, particularly at night
• Small dark droppings around cupboards and appliances
• Cockroach eggs/egg cases
• Unpleasant odours
• Cockroaches hiding around warm, damp areas

A few cockroaches can be the tip of the iceberg. Where you see one, there may be many more hiding out of sight.

Professional cockroach control involves more than simply spraying what you can see. Identifying harbourages, understanding the extent of the infestation and using an appropriate treatment strategy are all crucial to getting the problem under control.

📞 Got cockroaches? Don’t wait for them to take over your kitchen.

🐇 Rabbit Infestation at a Care Home 🐇

These images show just how serious a rabbit problem can become when a population gets out of control.

We were called to a care home where rabbits had taken over parts of the gardens, creating extensive burrowing throughout the grounds. Multiple burrows and tunnel entrances were present, leaving the ground heavily disturbed and potentially creating trip hazards for residents, staff and visitors.

Beyond the damage to the gardens, large rabbit populations can cause ongoing problems with:
🌱 Damage to lawns, plants and flower beds
🕳️ Extensive burrowing and ground instability
⚠️ Potential trip hazards
🐇 Rapid population growth
🔧 Ongoing maintenance and repair costs

For care homes, managing wildlife issues is particularly important where outdoor areas are regularly used by residents.

Our team assessed the extent of the activity and put together a professional rabbit control strategy designed around the site and its residents.

Another example of why early intervention can prevent a small rabbit problem from becoming a full-scale warren takeover! 🐇💨

🐦 Another pigeon fouling problem solved! 🧹

Pigeons had been regularly landing on the roof above this property’s doorstep, leaving behind a nasty build-up of fouling and creating an ongoing cleaning problem for the homeowner.

We installed pigeon deterrent spikes along the relevant areas of the roof to prevent the birds from landing and roosting there, helping to keep the entrance cleaner and more hygienic.

✅ A long-term deterrent without harming the birds

Pigeon fouling can be more than just unsightly. It can be corrosive, slippery and unhygienic, so preventing the birds from settling in the first place is often the best solution.

🏚️ Broken roof tiles… and an entire loft taken over by pigeons. 🐦

This loft became home to a large number of pigeons after they gained access through a single broken roof tile.

Over time they established nests, contaminated the insulation and filled the loft with droppings, feathers and debris. What starts as a small maintenance issue can quickly become a costly clean-up.

Pigeon infestations can lead to:
✅ Extensive contamination of loft insulation
✅ Damage to stored items
✅ Unpleasant odours
✅ Bird mites and other associated pests
✅ Increased repair and cleaning costs

Did you know?

Many people assume pigeons can simply be removed, but it’s not that straightforward.

Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, all wild birds are protected. While feral pigeons may be controlled in certain circumstances under Natural England’s General Licences, any action must meet strict legal conditions, and trapping birds inside a loft to die or destroying active nests unlawfully is an offence.

The best solution is always prevention. Regular roof inspections, repairing damaged tiles and proofing potential entry points can stop a minor defect becoming a major infestation.

If you’re hearing cooing, scratching or fluttering in your loft, don’t leave it until it looks like this.

Pests Controlled Ltd provides professional bird management, loft inspections, proofing solutions and contamination clean-up across the North East.

Another wasp nest safely dealt with today! After locating the nest, a professional treatment was applied to eliminate the colony before the nest was carefully removed from the property.

Wasps can become increasingly aggressive as the colony grows, making DIY removal risky and often ineffective. Professional treatment ensures the problem is dealt with safely and thoroughly.

If you’ve noticed increased wasp activity around your home or business, don’t wait until the nest gets larger. Early intervention can save time, money, and potential stings.

🐦☀️ Preventative Solar Panel Pigeon Proofing Completed in Billingham ☀️🐦

We’ve recently completed a solar panel pigeon proofing installation in Billingham, helping the homeowner prevent future pigeon nesting issues before they start.

The space beneath solar panels provides an ideal sheltered area for pigeons to roost and nest. Once established, they can create significant problems, including:

✅ Bird fouling on roofs, driveways and patios
✅ Blocked gutters and drainage systems
✅ Noise and disturbance from nesting activity
✅ Bird mites migrating into the property
✅ Damage to wiring and components beneath the panels
✅ Ongoing cleaning and maintenance costs

As this was a preventative installation, the customer chose to protect their solar panel system before pigeons had the opportunity to gain access and become established.

A high-quality proofing system was installed around the perimeter of the solar array, preventing access while maintaining airflow and the performance of the panels.

Prevention is always more cost-effective than dealing with a full-scale pigeon infestation later on.

🏠🐦 A recent call out involved pigeons beneath the guttering above a bay window. What looked like “just a few birds” had actually turned into a full chill out zone for pigeons, with heavy fouling building up across the window bay roof and all over the ground below.

Aside from the obvious mess and smell, pigeon activity like this can lead to a surprising number of problems:

• Blocked gutters and overflowing rainwater systems 🌧️
• Corrosion and staining to paintwork, brickwork and roofing materials
• Slippery paths and entranceways creating slip hazards ⚠️
• Attraction of insects such as flies, carpet beetles and mites 🪰
• Nesting materials creating fire risks around cables and lighting
• Noise disturbance from constant roosting and activity
• Health risks associated with accumulated bird droppings and airborne dust

Bay windows are a favourite spot for pigeons because they offer shelter, warmth and protection from predators. Once established, they will keep returning unless proofing measures are installed.

Following a thorough clean, preventative proofing was installed to stop the area becoming the pigeons’ penthouse suite again 🏢🐦🚫

If you’re noticing fouling, feathers, gutter blockages or early signs of bird activity around your property, it’s always best to deal with it before the problem escalates.
