Dahlias...
.. are really coming to life this mid autumn. I have no idea what these are called but they are coming into their own at the cottage. Late flowering interest is the best on dull grey days like today!

*apologies for slightly blurry photos, Storm Austin to thank for that!

Strawberry shrub...
.. this is a winner for me on these grey Suffolk days.

Arbutus unedo, utterly devine.

Mulching...
.. Is one of the most important things you can do for your garden. If you look after the soil, the plants will take care of themselves and goodness know they need it in those harshest summer months we get here in Suffolk.

Collaborating with Lucy Howard | Suffolk Garden Designer and working with Field Compost Ltd to better the borders has so far been quite the transformation.

When you can't sleep...

You decide to pick up a pencil and draw the nearest thing to you. Sorry Monty Don not sure if I've given you justice but there we are.

Putting the garden to bed...

Is an old time job that used to happen, cutting back seedheads, making everything look ship shape for the autumn but now, everything about my training and in my heart, that everything is precious, a home, a place to survive for the smallest of wildlife.

As much as I can advise customers, that leaving dead wood is important, piles of sticks, the odd pot abandoned in a corner, a pile of leaves and seedheads much like this beautiful achillea, is an ideal home for the bugs to get comfy.

I felt a little disheartened today with this. Does anyone else feel this way??

Fatsia Japonica...

This was bought in July at Yoxford Antique Centre and has gone bonkers.

I've potted it into a bigger pot and it's absolutely loving it.

A beautiful glossy leaved evergreen shrub that has an architectural palm like appearance. Its so worth having in the garden.

A sheltered spot and semi to Full shade plant of which you can also get a variegated type. Delish.

Give the van some love day!

It's disgusting. It's my only vehicle and it's disgusting.
During the week, fine, I get it. Spiders come down from the sun visor like they are Tom bloody Cruise but on the weekend when I get it and have decent clothes on? Ick. It's disgusting.

Come back Martha the Meriva. All is forgiven.

Yes i have the same issue
