Every successful architectural project starts with a vision, but bringing that vision to life often requires creativity, collaboration, and careful problem-solving.
In our latest case study, we take a look at the transformation of Tyn y Wern, a neglected farmhouse in a stunning rural setting that has been completely reimagined as a luxury multi-generational holiday retreat. Originally acquired as a run-down property with significant structural challenges, the brief was to create a versatile, future-proofed space capable of accommodating large family gatherings, corporate retreats, or operating as separate self-contained accommodation.
The project presented a number of challenges, from removing a poorly constructed extension and addressing structural issues, to navigating planning requirements and ecological surveys associated with the site's rural location. Through careful design and planning, approval was secured, allowing work to begin on an ambitious transformation.
A key feature of the redevelopment was the creation of a striking bespoke oak-framed extension, introducing light-filled contemporary living spaces that contrast beautifully with the character of the original farmhouse. Existing stone barns and agricultural buildings were also converted into high-specification annex accommodation, connected by a glazed link that maximises natural light and enhances functionality throughout the site.
Completed in spring 2024, the finished development successfully balances historic charm with modern design, delivering a flexible and enduring space that can adapt to changing needs for years to come.
