Our Story

The Natural Workshop was set up in 2013 by Michelle in our garage. Child care was expensive and we needed a way for her to earn a wage whilst still being able to help raise our children. The business grew from strength to strength and in July 2017 we took on our fi

rst real business premises. Since then we have expanded and I left my full time job as a Surveyor in May 2018 to work full time as a partner in the business. We work hard to have the right work life balance between running a small business and being there for our children. Since opening our doors, we’ve been committed to providing service of the highest quality, paying particular attention to working efficiently while keeping the lines of communication with our clients clear and concise. We have a fully kitted out workshop and have years of woodworking experience, because of this we are able to give a well rounded approach to your product needs and fully understand how to approach your design ideas.

We work with private individuals, small and big businesses alike and we are happy to accommodate any sized order that you might have, from a single unit all the way up to 1000`s of units being required. For someone who posts 1000s of reels, you'd think I could take a better picture 🤣

Found this on my phone this morning, a little throwback to a 1.5" thick, 4' house sign we made for a customer just before Christmas.

I absolutely love how sharp those letters came out, especially considering they're machined straight into solid timber.

What do you reckon?

I keep seeing this idea that trades should just "do the work, then get paid."

Except that's not how running a small business works.
A deposit isn't money we take and sit on. It pays for materials, covers upfront costs and books that space in our diary.

If I've got to order £1,000s worth of materials, turn other work away and then fund the whole job myself while the customer's money sits safely somewhere else... who exactly is financing the job?
Me, apparently.

There are already laws to deal with cowboys who take people's money and disappear. Go after them. Don't make life even harder for the thousands of legitimate businesses trying to do things properly.

"Do the work, get paid. It's as simple as that."

Except it isn't. That's the problem.

P.S. Before the "I've been doing this 30 years and never taken a deposit" comments start... good for you 😂 I don't care. The world has changed. Materials are expensive, customers cancel and cashflow matters. I'm not funding someone else's project out of my own pocket. Deposits/upfront payments are 100% necessary for a lot of small businesses.

We were contacted by a local art company that needed these huge 3m forms making to transport even bigger sculptures across the continent to Italy for a Fashion show...

Isnt life weird how one day youre making 500 awards for a local school and then the next youre building something like this....I do love it though!
