A new customer wished to replace two doors, match the new handles and vanity ironmongery on three existing door and introduce a new door in a new frame between an entrance hall at living area. I made the frame from softwood which was knotted before priming with Dulux Uniprimer and finishing with Johnstone’s Aqua white satin paint.
⠀
The handles were Altro satin chrome from Ironmongery Direct -634428- with the matching finish for the vanity roses.⠀
⠀
The clear glass was toughened as the area was more than .5 mtr square. ⠀
⠀
The three new doors were finished with two coats of LPD Hard Wax Oil.

A new customer asked me to build two units either side of an unusually deep chimney breast. The customer shared her ideas with me and I drew a sketch to accompany the quotation. I had drawn shaker style doors but plain doors were preferred by the customer. ⠀
⠀
I supplied two shelves per cupboard using pegs and provision to allow cables into the cupboard area. ⠀
⠀
The customer chose a Dulux colour Misty Mirror of which Paintwell, Colchester mixed up my preferred paint of Johnstone’s Aqua Guard durable satin. I thinned the paint by 10% with water giving me time to apply by roller then ‘lay off’ with a special brush which gives a lovely finish. I prime with two coats of Dulux Uniprimer, two coats of the Aqua Guard. ⠀
⠀
The cup hinges were Blum soft close and the sheet material from M L Panels, Lawford, Manningtree.

A customer asked me if I could improve the look of her front door. The exterior finish had deteriorated under full sun exposure. I could not recreate the wood textured shades but I could choose a RAL colour to tint Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Satin paint. I scraped and sanded the door surface then applied two coats of the finish.

Part 1 photos. Apparently I can only add 10 photos at a time so they continue in a second post. This property needed work to treat algae and lichen on the existing cladding, replace a broken roof tile and repair the damage, add plastic roofline, replace the degrading pebble dash with cladding and install new A+ uPVC windows.
I believe it is important to treat algae and lichen before painting. I use Nvirol with a 5 metre spray arm, spraying twice and then leaving for 2 to 4 weeks to allow the algae to go grey. This then gets rubbed off by hand using a non-woven hand pad. A mask must be worn as the dust contains the chemicals used to kill it.
A challenge to the work on the side of the house was to work without touching the neighbours roof which was not there when the extension of this cottage was built. I designed and built a box that allowed me to put an adjustable ladder on the side.
Once the sideway had two coats of Santex Extreme Exposure paint a tower was erected to work on the front of the house.
Cletes were fitted to hold the power cable and black roofline fitted.
The uPVC windows were fitted on alluminium angle instead of traditional lead, to create a crisp look to the house.
The porch was sanded and painted in Johnstones white Stormshield paint.

A new customer invited me to design and manufacture a six door wardrobe with internal drawers and hanging rails. The unit was finished in Dulux ‘Warm Pewter’ in a satin finish. The doors used Blum soft close cup hinges and all the drawers also had a soft closing action. The wardrobe reveals to the bench seat/ window were also panelled to create a visually improved return.
