⚠️ Exposed Single Insulation – A Small Detail That Can Become a Big Safety Issue

Found this while working on a lighting installation in Nottingham.

The cable feeding the light had been damaged, leaving the single insulation exposed. Once the outer sheath of a cable has been stripped or damaged, the wiring is no longer adequately protected and needs to be properly repaired or replaced.

It might look like a minor issue, but damaged or exposed wiring can increase the risk of electric shock, short circuits and electrical faults. 💡⚡

If your lights are old, have loose wiring, damaged cables or you’re simply unsure about the condition of your electrical installation, it’s worth getting it checked by a qualified electrician.

At J Michael Electrical Services, we carry out electrical repairs, lighting upgrades, EICRs and general electrical work across Nottingham, Arnold, Bestwood Village, Calverton, Mansfield and surrounding areas.

A new 40amp cooker circuit that had been run in. I came across on an EICR. Would you be happy with that install?

🚨 A nice little (but potentially dangerous) find in Sherwood today! 🚨

While carrying out an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) at a property in Sherwood, Nottingham, I discovered that the incoming mains supply cable was effectively holding itself up!

The fixings had completely deteriorated due to damp in the basement, leaving the incoming supply unsecured. Over time, this can put unnecessary strain on the electrical service cable and create a potentially dangerous situation.

This equipment belongs to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO), so it’s not something electricians are permitted to repair. I made a quick call to the DNO, and they arranged an emergency visit within a couple of hours to make the installation safe—completely free of charge for the homeowner.

✅ If your incoming supply cable or service head looks loose, damaged, or unsupported, don’t ignore it. Contact your DNO as soon as possible, as they’ll usually inspect and repair it at no cost.

If you’re in Sherwood, Arnold, Bestwood, Mapperley, or anywhere across Nottingham and need an EICR, electrical inspection, or advice about the safety of your home’s electrics, J Michael Electrical Services is here to help.
