Today on the 15th June 2026, officers from the Wythenshawe Neighbourhood Policing Team worked in partnership with Manchester City Council to address an ongoing issue on Shentonfield Road in Sharston involving abandoned vehicles obstructing public pathways and local businesses.
During this joint operation, officers and Council representatives issued several Traffic Offence Reports and arranged for the recovery of one vehicle that was causing a significant obstruction to a pedestrian footpath. These proactive measures were taken to improve safety and accessibility within the area.
Vehicles left obstructing pathways present a clear risk to members of the public, as they force pedestrians, particularly those with mobility issues, pushchairs, or wheelchairs, into the roadway. Therefore increasing the likelihood of accidents and injury. Tackling this issue remains a priority in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the local community.

| The family of a woman who sadly died in a road traffic collision in Wythenshawe last week have paid tribute to her.

It comes after we were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Southmoor Road, in Wythenshawe, at around 9.55am on Friday 5 June 2026.

One vehicle, a white Ford Ka, was seen driving along the road when the driver suffered a suspected medical episode and collided with a vehicle in the opposite lane.

The driver of the Ford was taken to hospital but sadly died on Monday 8 June. She has now been named by her family as 59-year-old Maxine Hickman.

In a heartfelt tribute, Maxine's family said: "Many people may already have heard about this incident, either through family and friends or online following the collision on Southmoor Road on Friday 5th June 2026.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that our mum passed away following the incident. We were later informed that she had suffered a brain aneurysm whilst driving, which led to the collision.

"Our mum worked as an NHS Healthcare Assistant and dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She was a kind, thoughtful and selfless person who always put other people first. Whether it was supporting family, friends, colleagues or those in her care, she was always willing to help."
