New sprinkler guidance for schools - what has changed?

Recent updates from the Department for Education have prompted industry discussion, following the removal of guidance recommending sprinkler systems in new school buildings.

Previously, Building Bulletin 100 (2007) set the expectation that most new schools should include sprinklers unless the risk was demonstrably low. That requirement is no longer embedded in current specifications.

While guidance evolves, the need for careful design, risk awareness, and long-term building performance does not.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a growing and ambitious construction company during a period of continued expansion.

We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to oversee the day-to-day finance function and support the continued growth of the business. Previous experience within the construction sector would be an advantage but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities:
• Preparation and submission of VAT returns
• Production of quarterly management accounts
• Bank reconciliations
• Management of purchase ledger
• Management of sales ledger
• Assisting with general financial controls and reporting

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
• Previous experience in a similar finance/accounting role
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
• Good working knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
• Construction industry experience desirable but not essential

What We Offer:
• Flexible working hours
• Minimum 24 hours per week
