The latest ONS construction data shows British repair and maintenance output was 3.9% higher year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026. Over the same period, new construction work fell by 6.1%.

No CGI. No shortcuts. Just 8,000lb of ambitious construction.

Christopher Nolan is famous for building practical sets rather than relying on CGI. For The Odyssey, that meant constructing a full-scale Trojan Horse with hand-carved head and legs, a substantial steel body and enough space inside for the actors, crew and an IMAX camera.

It’s an impressive reminder that what a structure looks like and what it takes to make it work can be two very different things.

At Contract Services, we understand that every ambitious construction project needs a realistic programme and carefully managed deadlines.

That said, 144 years might be pushing it. Construction of Barcelona’s Sagrada Família began in 1882 and work continues today with no confirmed date for the building’s full completion.

A breathtaking reminder that truly remarkable buildings demand vision, skill and patience, although Contract Services can reassure our clients that our project deadlines are considerably shorter.
