Small job, but a BIG step forward in my cleaning journey! This morning I tackled some canvas barrier panels that had stubborn embedded mold. Previously I struggled to remove it, even with high-pressure jet streams (which I don’t recommend). After some research, trial and error, and a bit of patience, I finally got them properly clean! These panels are now fresh, ready to be used again after drying, and will be finished with waterproofing + UV protection to extend their life. I know they weren’t as bad as some awnings I’ve done before, so I’ll definitely go back with my updated methods to make them even better. I’ve still got a few more techniques I want to test too! Hey everyone! If you've been following my page, you've probably seen me tackling all sorts of jobs — from replacing and patching vinyl floors, building fences, making custom windows and shelves, to cleaning rugs & mats, and plenty more! This morning I was jet washing an awning covered in stubborn English mold and city dust. I've been pressure washing around city bars and cafés for many years, but awnings and canopies are a completely different game. I’ve quickly learned you have to be really careful with the pressure and distance — it’s very easy to blow holes in older fabric or damage the stitched joints. That’s why I’ve been looking for better alternatives. I’ve seen a lot on YouTube about “soft washing” — where the chemicals and a good brush do most of the work instead of high pressure. I’ve tried several awning-specific cleaners as well as 5% sodium hypochlorite (bleach), soaking the fabric, brushing it, and then lightly rinsing… but I’m struggling to get great results. In the end I still had to go back to my trusty German-built Kranzle K7. I know there are pros out there who do this every day for a living and have way more experience than me. I’d really appreciate your tips and advice! What’s the best way you’ve found to clean heavily soiled awnings and canopies without damaging the fabric? Which chemicals, mixes, brushes or techniques actually work well? Drop your advice in the comments — I’d love to learn from you!
