Craftsmanship never goes out of style — the view from Galata Tower reminded us of that 🧱

There's something about looking out over a city from somewhere that's stood for centuries that puts things in perspective. Istanbul does that better than most places. Some of the best design inspiration doesn't come from a showroom — it comes from a trip ✏️

Lisa's recent trip to Istanbul took in the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque — two buildings that completely reframe what scale, light and craftsmanship can do to a space. The Hagia Sophia happened to be under scaffolding on the day, which was a shame for the photos, but even mid-restoration you could feel just how much history is packed into that building. The Blue Mosque, on the other hand, was every bit as breathtaking as expected. Great design principles really are timeless, whether you're looking at a centuries-old dome or planning a home extension.

I’m absolutely delighted to share that Pride Road Architects has been named a finalist in the Professional Services category of the Female Business Awards 2026! 🥂

Building Pride Road has certainly not been a straight line – from starting my own architectural practice to developing the Pride Road franchise and supporting other architects to build flexible businesses of their own.

So it feels pretty special to stop, look at how far we’ve come and have that journey recognised. ❤️

🧱 One of the first things I do when I visit a new place is look up.
🧡 While everyone else is taking in the view, I'm usually admiring the details—beautiful windows, interesting brickwork, elegant stonework or the way a building meets the sky.
This little oriel window caught my eye on holiday. It's not a grand building or a famous landmark, just a lovely piece of architecture that someone took the time to design and craft.
I don't take photos like this because I want to copy them. I take them because they remind me that great architecture is often made up of hundreds of small, thoughtful decisions.
That's what I love bringing to our projects in North Cheshire. Not just creating extra space, but designing homes that have character and feel like they've always belonged.
