Wednesday Well Done 👏

A huge congratulations to everyone who completed the Great Manchester Run 10K on Sunday in support of Liv's Fundraising page for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

The ‘Cara Team’—made up of friends and colleagues of our MD, Neil Allen—came together once again to raise awareness and vital funds in honour of Liv’s memory.
This marks the second year Neil and members of the team have taken on the Manchester 10K following last year’s fantastic event.

Those taking part alongside Neil included:
Dane Green, Helen Green, Calum Thompson, Peter Bennett, Benn Broadhurst, Pat McGowan, Joe Ainscough, Martin Murray, Gemma Murray, Rebecca Sutherland, Ellie Brown, Lily Pringle, James Hardy-Jones, and Leah Cuthbert.

Why this matters ❤️

Let this sink in:
12 seemingly fit and healthy young people lose their lives every week in the UK to sudden cardiac death.
Even more concerning, in 80% of cases there are no prior symptoms or warning signs.

CRY is working tirelessly to change this through:
*Subsidised heart screening programmes
*Groundbreaking cardiac research
*Ongoing support for affected families

Fundraising Update:-
So far, the team has raised around £2,000 — an incredible effort 👏

However, there is still time to support this vital cause. Every donation helps CRY continue its life-saving work.

Well done again to everyone involved—you’ve done something truly meaningful 👏

2nd Great Manchester 10k in Memory of Liv 💖🏃‍♀️

The day is almost upon us when a team of friends and colleagues will take on the 2nd Great Manchester Run 10k in memory of Liv. 💜🕊️

Cara Group will once again be running the event — our second year supporting Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) — all in loving memory of Olivia “Liv”

This cause couldn’t be more personal. Liv, the 19 year old daughter of Cara's Managing Director, Neil, tragically passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest in June 2024, coming up to 2 years. ✨

Bright, ambitious, and full of compassion, Liv dreamed of becoming a vet and had a natural love for animals. 🐾💛

Neil said:
“Losing Liv has been the most devastating experience of my life. No family should have to go through this heartbreak, and that’s why I’m determined to do whatever I can to support CRY and their vital work” 💔

Liv had been training for a Race for Life 10k before she passed away, always eager to support charities and make a difference. 🏅

Completing this 10k in her honour is a fitting tribute to her generous and caring spirit. 🌸

Some of the Cara team aren’t natural runners 😅, but everyone has pledged to cross that finish line — even if they have to walk, jog, or crawl! 🐢💨

What matters most is coming together, getting active, and raising awareness for such an important cause in Liv’s memory. 🫶

Please consider donating the price of a coffee ☕ or a pint 🍺 to support CRY and help us honour Liv. Every contribution truly makes a difference. 💗

Winning Wednesday – Site Awards 👏

We’re proud to recognise Elvis (left) and Callum Farrelly on our Wigan & Leigh project with Willmott Dixon.

Both apprentices have been awarded the Green Card Award for their proactive approach to keeping scaffolds and access routes clear, alongside a consistently positive attitude—recognised by Andrew Ormesher, Build Manager.

This is exactly what we’re about at Cara—developing the right behaviours, standards and mindset from day one. Credit to the lads for setting the bar early in their careers.

Well deserved 👏 We’ll be matching Willmott Dixon’s voucher as a small token of recognition.

A Feel-Good Story to Round Off the Week 👏

Cara has been closely involved with Embassy Village since we first heard about the project, and it’s something that’s really close to our hearts. From the outset, we reached out to Sid to see how we could support the residents and the fantastic work being done there.

We were proud to play our part in the construction of the village, built by Vermont, but we always felt there was more we could do.

Recently, we contacted Sid to ask if any of the residents might be looking for work on our Upper Brook Street scheme with McLaren. When a name was put forward, we realised it was someone who had actually worked for us a few years ago. Sadly, he had fallen on hard times, found himself homeless, and had been supported by Embassy Village.

With the help of James Fryer and the McLaren team, we were able to get him back on site and provide him with a full set of work gear.

It’s fantastic to have him back in full-time employment and part of the team again.
For those who don’t know, Embassy Village was created by Sid and his wife Tess. It’s an incredible facility that supports people experiencing homelessness, helping them rebuild their lives. The village currently has 15 residents and is gradually expanding, welcoming one new resident each week.

The support provided goes far beyond accommodation. Residents benefit from:

Daily support to help them rebuild structure and stability
Life skills and employment training
Mentoring and pastoral care, including support working through past traumas
Community activities and wellbeing support
Ongoing maintenance and development of the village, with residents contributing and taking pride in their environment

The sense of community and morale at the village is truly inspiring, with everyone pitching in and supporting one another.

Sid is always on the lookout for support—whether through donations or employment opportunities for residents. If you’re in a position to help, you can make a real difference.

We’d encourage anyone to reach out to Sid, visit the village, and see first-hand the incredible impact being made to tackle homelessness in Manchester.

Ready to Build 🔧

Cara Brickwork were recently commissioned by Morgan Sindall to procure and store 50,000 Lignacite Ltd blocks for the upcoming National Institute of Airborne Acoustic Metrology scheme at the University of Salford International.

Given the critical acoustic performance requirements of the project, achieving the correct ratings is essential. In this case, Lignacite blocks were the only solution capable of meeting the target performance – but only in their dry state.

To ensure this, the blocks were:
• Delivered from the south in two artic loads per day over a three-week period
• Carefully stored in a warehouse to allow them to dry out fully ahead of installation
• Secured early, helping to mitigate any potential price increases

With masonry works due to commence in July, everything is now in place to hit the ground running.

We’re looking forward to seeing these blocks being laid on site — keep your eyes peeled for updates 👀

🙌 Feel Good Friday

This week, we’re celebrating the Cara Team 👏

On Wednesday, Cara Brickwork MD Neil Allen proudly collected a Willmott Dixon “Special Recognition Award” on behalf of the business.

Cara has been a trusted supply chain partner with Willmott Dixon since 2007 – that’s an incredible 17 years of collaboration. During that time, the team has delivered projects across the Northwest, Yorkshire, Lancashire, and North Wales, picking up numerous awards along the way.

Reflecting on the achievement, Neil said:
“This award means so much, as it feels like a huge ‘pat on the back’ for all the schemes we’ve delivered together.
Have we been perfect all the time? No. But what matters is how we—both companies—work through challenges on site, talking things through and finding solutions.
Having ‘grown up’ with many of the Willmott Dixon teams, they’ve become friends as well as colleagues. We know we can have the hard conversations when needed.
I’d like to thank all the Willmott Dixon teams for continuing to choose Cara—and to the Cara team… this one is for you!”

The award was presented by Mike Lane, Director of North at Willmott Dixon.

⭐ More good news this week…

We’re also delighted to have had our ‘Preferred Supplier’ status with Morgan Sindall renewed for another year – a company that we have partnered with for 25 years 🤝

Neil Carson commented:
“This recognition reflects the consistent effort and high standards demonstrated by your team, from preconstruction through to on-site delivery.
We also appreciate your ongoing support across social value, sustainability, and work winning.
We value the relationship with Cara Brickwork and look forward to strengthening our partnership further in the months ahead.”

🏆 Winning Wednesday 🏆

JJ ProActive Feyenoord Girls U11s took part in the SCI Rhyl Football Tournament over the May Bank Holiday weekend – and what a weekend it was!

⚽ Played 5 matches
✅ 5 wins
🛡️ 0 goals conceded

An outstanding performance against teams from across the UK, showcasing not only incredible football talent but also fantastic teamwork, attitude and togetherness. A brilliant weekend of football and team bonding all round!

Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of local businesses.

When Cara Group were asked if we could help, we were more than happy to get involved and support such a special group of young athletes.

With dedication like this, who knows what the future holds? Hopefully we’ll see some of these girls playing in the WPL, pulling on an England shirt, and maybe even lifting the real World Cup one day 🏆🇬🇧

👏 Well done girls – keep flying the flag!

Winning Work Wednesday 🏗️

We’re delighted to announce that we have been appointed by GMI Construction 🤝 to deliver the masonry package for the new Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters 🚒🔥.

Designed to Passivhaus standards 🌱, the new HQ will incorporate exceptional levels of insulation, high‑performance glazing, airtight construction, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and on‑site energy generation ⚡—creating a highly sustainable and energy‑efficient facility.

This appointment continues our strong relationship with GMI Yorkshire, following the successful completion of works at Rialto and Mabgate, and most recently Foss Island, where the team received fantastic feedback on quality, safety, and overall team morale 👏.

Having first been involved with this scheme back in July 2025, we’re looking forward to contributing to what promises to be an excellent project, with masonry works due to commence this June 🧱.

A great example of collaborative working 🤝 delivering high‑quality, sustainable construction.

🌄 Team Cara is taking on the Mighty Marathon Hike! 💚

This July, a group of our amazing Cara colleagues will be tackling the Macmillan Cancer Support 'Peak District Mighty Marathon Hike' — a stunning but seriously challenging 26 mile route through the beautiful White Peak. With around 1,126m of elevation, it may be labelled “hilly with easy terrain,” but make no mistake… this one’s a real test of grit and teamwork.

We’re proud to have a 19 strong crew, officially known as 'The Father Teds Trailblazers', all stepping up to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support — a charity that means so much to so many.

To keep the momentum going, a smaller splinter squad (now affectionately called The Reservoir Dogs, because yes… every training walk so far has been around a reservoir!) completed a brilliant hike around Stocks Reservoir in Slaidburn, Clitheroe on Saturday 7th March.

👣 Want to get involved?

Our Cara Support Mates run a monthly walk/hike open to all staff and friends. This month we’re heading from Edale to Mam Tor, and we’d love to have more of you join the adventure.

Here’s to big hills, big hearts, and an even bigger cause. Let’s do this, Trailblazers! 💪💚
