The judges have been hitting the road (and rail)! We've visited 9 shortlisted entries for the National Trust's Sky Gardening Challenge competition across Sheffield, Leeds, and Manchester. We saw balconies and ground floors in every category and the judges have been met with a warm welcome (and sweet treats!) everywhere we went.

Judges Jason Williams Cloud Gardener UK, Victoria Holden NorthernLily, Dot Tye, Project Manager Howard Bristol, and photographers Annapurna Mellor and Claire Naylor got to meet the creators behind the gardens and hear the stories behind them. It's fair to say the stories were just as impressive as the spaces.

"What we've seen this year has really exceeded our expectations. It's been great to see the growth and development of the finalists and what their small spaces mean to them. We can't wait to see more."

There are still more sky gardens to visit before the final decisions are made. Watch this space.

(And a special mention to those we had to reschedule due to tube delays – we can't wait to see you!)

Would you like to see what it takes to build a show garden? Come behind the scenes with me to build the multi-award winning school garden at the Southport Flower Show and to see the relocation process to a near by school.

We also take a look at the longest community border in the UK, pick up some late summer border ideas to revive our gardens and get a quick update on the Cloud Garden. This is an epic long form documentary, so grab a brew and enjoy πŸ’š

Did you know that you can still sow seeds in August even though you have a container garden? I'm on a mission to use my garden this winter.

Put the kettle on, take a closer look at the Cloud Garden and find out what I'm sowing this month for a Winter/Spring harvest:

It’s competition time and there is still time to enter! As the deadline for the National Trust's Sky Gardening Challenge competition gets closer (16 August) we’ve been going out to meet the judges...

Here we join Cloud Gardener and competition judge Jason on his balcony garden in Manchester.

β€œI decided during lockdown that I was going to get one or two plants and try and make something of the space, and over the years, it's evolved and changed.

β€œI started with this programme from its very concept, and to see it grow and flourish and turn into a national competition is just incredible. So many of the contestants had zero gardening skills or interest in gardening before they've given it a try. What I'm really interested in is learning about how the garden has affected them, not just them, but also their flatmates.”

So why not give it a grow? Enter by 16 August for a chance to win Β£200 in gardening goodies and much more.

For details on how to enter and full terms and conditions go to the links in bio or search National Trust Sky Gardening Challenge.

Did you make it to the RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Badminton show? The gardens were stunning. I broke down some of the gardens into a small space garden masterclass to help you create your very own show gardens at home and use my balcony to show how to implement some of the ideas.

My Jasmine has become an actual superstar this year. The display this year, is hands down the best it's ever done. It's taken a few years for me to learn the plants needs and desires but now that it's established it helps to bring in an army of night time pollinators who call my garden their home over winter
